2023: Edo PDP’ll stick to party decisions – Obaseki

Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has assured that the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will stick to any decision reached at the national level ahead of the presidential primary election.
Obaseki said this when he received the PDP presidential aspirant and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, who visited him at the Government House, Benin City, to seek his support, and that of the party delegates ahead of the primary elections.
In his words, “I believe that you know what the issues are in Nigeria today, and have practically touched all of them. You are sensitive; and you have that displayed sensitivity always, even when we go through contentious issues in our meetings.
“I can confirm that you are a patriot and a democrat; I like your spirit, which is why democracy is about contestation. There is nothing wrong when you throw your hat in the ring, and you’ve been quite clear. There may be other aspirants who may possess such attributes.
“You feel that you have what it takes to run this country and deal with all the critical issues affecting us today. What I want to assure you is that for us in Edo, we’re PDP and we want our party to produce the next president.
“Whatever tour party agrees to do, as long as it’s fair and just, we, in Edo, will support it. You’ve come to seek the support of our delegates. They also have the privilege to hear from you and know the decision to take when the time comes,” Obaseki noted.
Earlier, Mohammed said his wealth of experience and track record over the years would enable him to deliver good governance to Nigerians if elected president.
He said, “I have a track record of being a nationalist, a federalist, a civil servant, and a reporter like these young people. I know the country very well and the people of the country know me. I have been tested as a civil servant, a legislator in Abuja and Bauchi, using small resources to do more as you are doing a similar thing here in Edo.”
Mohammed noted that his reign as the president would foster oneness among Nigerians and further deepen leadership.

DSS arrests alleged notorious land-grabber terrorising Ogun community

Crack operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), Ogun State Command, have arrested a notorious land-grabber allegedly terrorising Ota community in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, Elijah Adeogun aka Killer, was arrested at about 2.25 am on Monday, May 16, at Araromi Estate, Iyesi, Ota, following a petition written by the Adelupo Family of Ipetu Baba Ode via Iju-Ota.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the petition contained an allegation that Adeogun was responsible for the gruesome murder of one Monday Eredua on 17th November 2021, over a land matter in connivance with six others.
It was further learnt that a tactical team of the service conducted a special operation which led to Adeogun’s arrest alongside one Oyelekan Okunade.
The 40-year-old suspect, who had been on the watchlist of various security agencies in the state, was also reported to have allegedly masterminded the killing of one Moruf Babalola, on the 26th of May, 2021, in the same community, while his remains were thrown into a canal.
The suspect would be handed over to the Police for further investigation.

Traditional healer who burnt his girlfriend alive found guilty of murder

A South African traditional healer who burnt his girlfriend alive and stabbed her while she was alight, was found guilty of murder on Monday, May 16.
Thapelo Ramoruki, 29, was convicted in the North West high court, sitting at Mogwase regional court.
In addition to the murder conviction, he was found guilty of pointing a firearm. He was acquitted on a charge of kidnapping and unlawful possession of a firearm.
It is alleged that on January 12 2021, Ramoruki, together with his girlfriend Tsholofelo Tsheko, their one-month-old baby and Tsheko’s younger brother drove to Sandfontein cemetery to perform a ritual for their child.
He took with him petrol, a pellet gun, a knife and traditional beer.
After performing the ritual, they moved to a nearby dam to cleanse themselves before going home.
“Upon arrival at the dam, Ramoruki pointed a gun at himself, then later pointed it at Tsheko and ordered her to hand over the baby to her younger brother,” said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
“He instructed the brother to wait in the car. He then poured petrol over Tsheko and set her alight. He went on to stab her in the abdomen several times while she was burning,”
Ramoruki was arrested on the scene. Tsheko was taken to Moses Kotane Hospital but died the next day.
Ramoruki is to be sentenced on Wednesday, May 18.
