How can you tell the difference between regular relationship ups and downs and the warning signs that things are actually coming to an end?
Knowing the signs that your relationship is ending can serve as a wakeup call. You have a choice to either work hard to turn things around or end everyone’s suffering by breaking it off with your partner. So how can you tell if the relationship is over? Watch out for these clues:
1. You stop fighting
Arguments are normal in relationships. It is an opportunity to clear out any differences you may have. So fights don’t necessarily signal that the relationship is over. Incidentally, when you stop fighting, it could be a warning sign. This is especially true if you’ve held on to resentment for far too long. So basically, if your partner does one more thing that upsets you, you cannot even muster up the energy to fight about it. This could mean you’ve emotionally checked out.
2. You stop confiding in each other
One thing many of us look for in a relationship is a confidant – someone we can share our experiences, feelings, and ideas with. But if you and your partner have stopped being that person for each other, then it’s not a good sign.
3. You don’t make future plans
When one or both partners have checked out of a relationship, they subconsciously avoid committing to any future plans. You can’t even make plans to attend an event coming up in a month or two. And this is because, deep down, you suspect you would have gone your separate ways by then.
4. You look for that connection elsewhere
If a breakup is imminent, it’ll generally be the result of repeated periods of unhappiness and/or doubts – either for you, your partner, or both of you. So either one (or both) of you may start seeking your happiness elsewhere by straying.
5. You’ve become numb
Usually, when one or both partners have dealt with dissatisfaction, irritation, anger, frustration, hurt and disappointment in the relationship for so long, it can all pile up. And when these issues aren’t resolved, at some point, you’ll start to feel nothing for each other. In other words, when you stop having any type of emotional . to what your partner says or does, it is a big sign that it’s over.
6. You imagine being single
When you’re done with a relationship, you’ll start to imagine what it would be like to end things. You may even take things one step further by making mental plans for what you’ll do next.
To make things even clearer, consider these questions to ask yourself before breaking up with your partner.
