Nigeria Records Highest Single Day Cases of COVID-19

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has announced an addition 381 new coronavirus cases, which is the highest single-day toll of the dreaded virus so far in the country to take the total cases announced so far to 3526.
From the 381 new cases Lagos has 183, Kano-55, Jigawa-44, Zamfara-19, Bauchi-19, Katsina-11, Borno-9, Kwara-8, Kaduna-7, Gombe-6, Ogun-5, Sokoto-4, Oyo-3, Rivers- 3, Niger -2, while Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Plateau have one case each.
From the 3526 cases of COVID19 in Nigeria, 601 patients have been discharged, while 107 have died.

Lagos Assembly seeks an account of COVID-19 spending

The Lagos House of Assembly has asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to account for expenses incurred from donations received in support of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The request was made at the plenary presided over by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on Thursday. They called on the governor to introduce a co-chairman from the Executive to represent the state’s COVID-19 Incident Commander before the House.

Plateau discharges index case

The index COVID-19 case in Plateau has been discharged on Thursday from one of its isolation centres at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

The patient was confirmed positive for the virus on April 23, 2020.  The Consultant Physician for Infectious Disease at JUTH, Dr Nathan Shehu, confirmed the recovery and discharge.

“The patient has recovered and is fit to reintegrate into the community. She no longer poses a risk. The patient came asymptomatic; after treatment, her samples were taken and they all are negative. So, she is discharged and can go home.”

Akeredolu orders arrest of face mask violators

Ondo Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has ordered the arrest of anybody walking in the street without wearing the face mask.

Speaking on Thursday in Akure, the governor said offenders would be placed on 14-day isolation at their own cost.

He also kick-started the distribution of 500,000 face masks produced by tailors in the state, saying the production of the masks and their distribution was aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19.

Akeredolu said his administration engaged the services of 400 tailors to generate income for them to cushion the effect of the lockdown.
