Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress
Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has resigned his membership from the All Progressive Congress over the Muslim-Muslim ticket scandal.
The actor on his official Instagram page on Monday, July 11, 2021, tendered his statement and his decision to leave the party.
In the statement, he stated reasons behind his resignation.
According to the veteran actor, the decision of the presidential candidate on the Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 elections is unjust.
In his caption, he wrote, “I just resigned my membership of the All Progressive Congress in the interest of equity, justice, fairness and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.
“May God deliver Nigeria from the hands of power grabbers who elevate the quest for power above the quest for purpose.
“God bless you and Barka da Sallah to our Muslim brothers.
The statement is dated July 11, 2022.
An excerpt of the statement read, “Recall that I joined APC because of its constitutional view, as true progressives and patriots, to eliminate all forms of discrimination and social injustice in Nigeria, thereby building a nation which guarantee equal opportunity for all and ensure mutual and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians…
“If Muslims could voluntarily vote for southern presidents it is then a fallacy to insinuate that they cannot accept a northern Christian vice president,” part of the statement read.
“This will permanently destroy the political viability of Northern Christians in Nigeria if allowed to stand. This is in the addition to the failure to protect lives and properties of Nigerians which should be their primary responsibility. The country is also in shatters.”
Recall that the presidential candidate from APC, Senator Bola Tinubu, announced a former two-term Governor of Borno and a Muslim, as his running mate.
Shettima is currently representing Borno Central in the National Assembly.
