mama crisis into song. As the year 2015 came to an end, many music artistes revealed plans to launch albums in the New Year, 2016. Some of them have already released tracks off of the albums. anthony ada abraham writes on some of the albums fans look forward to.

2015 was a great year for many Nigerian artistes who made massive wave in the industry releasing massive hit singles to crazy videos. But in 2016 it seems Mavin Records’ first lady – Tiwa Savage’s latest studio album – R.E.D has kick started the year with a heavy collaboration with YBNL boss – Olamide titled – Standing Ovation, produced by Don Jazzy and the captivating visuals was shot by Clarence Peters.

Also expected to be a banger is the highly anticipated visuals to Jesse Jagz’s Jaga Love featuring the in-form rapper Ice Prince which is now enjoying the airwaves. Jaga Love which has popularly been termed as Jesse’s comeback single has gradually gained momentum online and on air since its release. Directed by Clarence Peters and shot in Lagos, Nigeria, the clean and crisp visuals show a side of the rapper not seen before.

Dancing to the tunes is one artiste Nigerians should watch out for his album. The Supersun singer is set to release his sophomore album officially this year after he held a private listening session of the album in November 2015.The album titled Gbagyi Child is produced by Cobhams Asuquo. The album which took the singer two years to make is said to be a body of dynamic sounds from different origins telling different stories.

For Starboy Wizkid, he is set to drop his 3rd album and 1st under his self-owned Starboy label titled, Imprint. The release of Wizkid’s album, earlier scheduled for release in 2015 was postponed to 2016, after 2face’s show last year because he wanted to make sure it was the perfect record for fans. The album which features quite a number of international music stars such as American R’n’B stars, Chris Brown and TY Dolla $ign, British-Nigerian rapper; Tinie Tempah amongst others. The album also features Benionise Grammy award winning act Angelique Kidjo.

One of his fans has said that his album would be the biggest thing in 2016 as his collaborations are hits, back to back.

This lady, Yemi Slade, can’t stop producing hit songs and with Mama Africa which is the name of the second album of the Effyzie music group singer. The album has seen some of the singles on Vevo receiving millions of views. With radio hit singles such as Nagode, Sugar and Durotimi we expect nothing else short of amazing. The album is scheduled for release in March this year.

Lil Kesh has continue to thank Son Jazzy for his promoting his songs. And his album one the industry has been anticpating. With chart topping hits such as Shoki, Efejoku, Gbese and Is it because I love you, Lil Kesh has showed he is no flash in the pan.The reason being he has got a lot of people talking and asking questions like would he be able to maintain the level he reached in the past year? Can he follow in the footsteps of label boss, Olamide? He has confirmed that he is working on his album and fans should watch out for the album in 2016.

Just like the aforementioned act, the G-worldwide act Kiss Daniel has drawn quite a huge attention and criticism at the same time from the industry and public at large. He announced he would be dropping an album this year via an open letter to fans after losing out at the Headies 2015.

Banky W, the Empire mates entertainment CEO did not release any major single until the end of the year when he teased fans with the duet track All I Want Is You with Capital first lady; Chidinma, giving us what to expect from his album set to drop this year. We absolutely can’t wait for the album which, we heard from Cobhams as at November 2015, is in its finishing stage.

For Omawumi also known as Omawonder would be dropping an album this year. Cobhams also confirmed this to YNaija exclusively in a chat at Seyi Shay’s album launch in November 2015. He said the album is a masterclass and is near ready.

As it concerns music, 2016 promises to be an exciting year but whether the albums will meet the expectations of waiting fans remains to be ‘heard’.
