Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress
The Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Group (AMCO) says former governor Akinwumi Ambode will partake in the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Lagos governorship seat ahead of the 2023 election.
Ambode was denied a second term by the party in 2020 after falling out with Lagos strongman Bola Tinubu who is now pursuing his presidential ambition.
Speaking on Tuesday, AMCO chairman Olawale Oluwo confirmed Ambode will seek the party’s ticket as opposed to the notion that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was the party’s consensus candidate.
“There is no revenge mission, what we are doing is to follow the process of democracy. We see what is happening in Lagos, we know what we were doing in Lagos as an administration. We are also on the streets and it is clear to us that the people of Lagos are not pleased with the performance of this administration,” said the former Lagos commissioner of energy and mineral resources.
“It’s a clarion call and a signal to us. We’ve been working all the while since we left office because we know a day like this will come when we will heed the call of Lagosians.
“We are determined to participate in the primary elections in Lagos. By God’s grace and by the grace of the people in our party we hope to also participate in the general election.”
Oluwo stressed that he would disparage the Sanwo-Olu administration but that due process would be followed in getting Ambode back at the Lagos House.
