Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress

A National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, has hit out at the All Progressives Congress, APC, for “trying to reap where it did not sow” to secure victory in the just-concluded Anambra Governorship Election.

Secondus also congratulated the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chukwuma Soludo, for his victory at the poll.

Soludo, 61, won with 112,229 votes beating Valentine Ozigbo of the PDP, who polled 53,807 votes, and Andy Uba of APC who got 43,285 votes. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party who polled 21,261 votes came fourth.

While Soludo won 19 local government areas, Ozigbo and Ubah won one each. The APC candidate, however, did not win any of the local government areas in the South-East state.

The candidates of the PDP and YPP have since congratulated Soludo but the APC candidate was yet to concede defeat as of press time.

Inmates Who Escaped Suleja Prison Recaptured

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that at least ten out of the 119 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, North Central Nigeria have been recaptured.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that the escape was caused by a rainstorm that caused damage to parts of the facility’s structures on Wednesday night.
However, the NCoS has swiftly activated recapturing mechanisms, collaborating with sister security agencies.

So far, 10 inmates have been recaptured, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining 109 fugitives.

“The Service is not unmindful of the fact that many of its facilities were built during the colonial era, and that they are old and weak.

“The Service is making frantic efforts to see that all ageing facilities give way for modern ones. This is evidenced in the ongoing construction of six (6) number of 3000-capacity ultra-modern custodial centres in all the geo-political zones in Nigeria as well as the ongoing reconstruction and renovation of existing ones.

“The Service wishes to assure the public that it is on top of the situation and that they should go about their businesses without fear or hindrance. The public is further enjoined to look out for the fleeing inmates and report any suspicious movement to the nearest security agency,” FCT Command’s spokesperson stated.
