ince childhood, ladies have always been fascinated with playing dress-up. Whether it’s trying on our moms outfits or twinning with our dolls, clothes have always been a pleasure. Few things can compare with the sight of that little girl all ‘dolled’ up as she stares in the mirror satisfied with her dress up accomplishment. Luckily, we relived this last week as Black celebrities and influencers ditched their Barbies and became “the Barbies.” We smiled with satisfaction at the style geniuses these one-time little girls have grown up to be.

While some maintained the classic girly options, others veered towards chic menswear-inspired suit sets. Either way seemed fine as they collectively highlighted the beauty in diversity and the different expressions womanhood could depict. From attending movie premieres to beauty pageants, our best dressed chose stunning and executed in flying colors.

The looks

Not all feathers are designed to be plucked and the Marcel Von Berlin red feather dress on star girl, Kelly Rowland fell into this category. The talented musician went hard in the statement number as she attended the movie premier of The Harder We Fall alongside bubby, Tim Weatherspoon. For the same event, Bre-Z was a typical ultra-modern woman in a monochrome Dolce & Gabbana suit as she doubled with her partner, Chris Amore who matched the energy in a stunning YSL ensemble. The couple ate it up, belched and left no crumbs.

Nigerian media girl, Stephanie Coker-Aderinokun in an Atafo structured exaggerated sleeves suit teamed with a white button down shirt and neon pumps was the polished hotness the internet needed. She posed in this dapper set on Instagram with the caption: “I’m having a very bossed up week. Back to back business meetings, school runs, date nights Le boo. You know, regular #HotMum Sh*t.” If she pulled off these tasks in this on fleek outfit, it’s totally worth it.

The styles shared by Black celebs and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them. Black style queens.
