Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, has praised governors in the 36 states of the federation for standing up for the people against the Central Bank of nigeria’s controversial redesign of the Naira and cashless policies.
Bayo Onanuga, the Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said this in a statement on Wednesday.
This happened hours after the Supreme Court temporarily stopped the Federal Government’s plan to prevent people from using old naira notes on February 10, 2023.
A seven-person panel led by Justice John Okoro gave an interim injunction against the CBN and Federal Government. This means the old N200, N500, and N1000 bills are still legal tender after the February 10 deadline until the case is fully decided.
Tinubu, who was very happy, said that the governors, especially the ones who ran the APC states and brought the suit against the FG and CBN to the Supreme Court, did the right thing for the poor Nigerian people who have had to suffer because of the Naira redesign policy.
The APC candidate said that the ruling by the highest court happened at the same time the International Monetary Fund said that the deadline for exchanging old naira notes should be pushed back.
