Reality star and transgender Caitlyn Jenner’s formal request to change her name and gender has been approved.
According to TMZ, the Olympic gold medalist’s filed court documents at Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking the change earlier this month.
A judge has now approved the 65-year-old request, granting the petition during a brief hearing which Jenner was represented by two lawyers. The approval means Jenner’s new name will be Caitlyn Marie Jenner.
Caitlyn will now be able to get documents, including a driver’s license and Social Security card, that conform to her new identity.
She publicly transitioned to a woman in recent months after revealing her intentions to journalist Diane Sawyer in a televised special and debuting her new name and look on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.
