Following the success of her 2017 EP, Aphrodija, Di’ja took a long break from the music scene. To start off the year, she has released a new single, “Mr Bob”, a letter to the late Bob Marley on his birthday.
On the reggae-infused track, Di’ja switches up her sound, asking what Bob Marley feels about the state of things in the world. While her take on reggae is a bit different from what we’re used to, her tribute to Marley doesn’t come as a surprise given how Nigerian artists simply ‘dabble’ into dancehall whenever they want to change their sound.
While “Mr Bob” may not be as big of a banger as some of her other sounds, it’s safe to say that she makes the song work with her new sound. The accompanying video doesn’t match the theme other than the random shots of hair locs and Bob Marley. In the laidback video, she sings and has a good time in a Carribean-themed restaurant with other customers as they eat their food and share positive vibes.
