Dog bites 18-month-old baby in the face, missing her eye by fraction of an inch in unprovoked attack

An 18 month old baby has been left traumatised after being bitten on the face by a dog in an unprovoked attack.

Toddler, Kelsie Male, was thrown back onto the pavement after an Alsatian dog lunged and sunk its teeth into her face missing her eye by just millimetres.

Her mother Sophie Garth, 28, who was a few steps behind, desperately ran to help her out and then rushed the bloodied and bruised girl to hospital.

Sophie and her partner Stuart Male, 33, went strolling with their three older children when the attack took place last week Saturday.

According to Sophie, they were walking down the pavement near to their home when the dog appeared from nowhere and immediately lunged for Kelsie’s face.

The baby was thrown backwards by the force of the animal and sustained minor injuries but her parents say the incident has left the baby deeply traumatized.

The family, from Portland, Dorset, say the attack has left their youngest daughter waking up crying in the night, unhappy to be left alone and ‘jumpy’ around both people and other dogs.

Mother Sophie said: ‘Watching that dog go for my daughter is a sight that will sadly never leave me and I can still hear her crying when I close my eyes.

‘I was about four steps behind her on the pavement but the dog just came out of nowhere, completely unprovoked – it was bigger than her and sent her flying off the curb onto the floor.

‘It was awful seeing her in so much pain as she is such a lovely little girl with a big heart.

‘Thankfully her injuries are mainly recovered now, but the situation could have been so much different if the dog had bitten just millimetres higher on her face and got her in the eye.

‘She’s still traumatised – she wakes up in the night crying, she gets jumpy around everyone and she doesn’t want to be left alone.’

Police attended the scene but no arrests were made. The dog was believed to be owned by a visiting friend of one of the street’s residents.

As Sophie and Stuart rushed their daughter to Weymouth hospital, they said Kelsie’s face and mouth were bleeding and she had bruises all over her back from the fall.

Sophie added: ‘She had blood over one side of her face but I was so scared to touch her in case I hurt her or caused it to get infected.

‘She cried for hours without stopping – I will never be able to forget the sound of those cries.’

Sophie said: ‘What happened that day will never leave my memory – my beautiful little girl was bitten for no reason.

‘You never expect this kind of thing will ever happen to your child, she is such a lovely girl, she has a big heart, and she was a huge animal lover before this.

‘She’s incredibly lucky that the dog missed her eye or this could have been so much worse, but it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

‘We’re just praying that she will get over the trauma and go back to how she was before.

‘I just want this to be a warning to other parents to be wary letting their children near dogs you don’t know – you can never be sure what might happen and it’s not worth the risk.’

Vandalism throws over 50 Enugu, Ebonyi communities into darkness

Published

on

Over 50 communities in Enugu State have been thrown into darkness following the vandalism of Amechi – Awgu 33KV mainline, property of the Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC), which supplies electricity to the affected communities.

The vandalism, which occurred at Nenwe Junction down to the World University in Aninri Local Government Area, involved the removal of about 40 spans of aluminum conductors on the line as well as the collapse and damage of 15 High Tension poles.

This development was made known in Enugu on Thursday by the Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh.

Ezeh stated that this part of the network has been under attack by vandals since January this year, and the present incident reoccurred barely two weeks after the company had spent millions of Naira in replacing the vandalized items.

“This portion of the network was attacked in January, February, and twice in April, which has led to the present darkness experienced by electricity customers in these affected communities, as about 130 distribution substations (transformers) are affected and cannot supply electricity to customers,” he said.

According to EEDC’s spokesman, the entire communities in Aninri Local Government Area, over 50% of the communities in Awgu Local Government Area and Akaeze and Ishiagu under Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi Atate were affected by this ugly incident.

Some of the affected communities include Mgbowo, Ugwuleshi Awgu, Ogwuofia Awgu, Obodo Asaa Awgu, Ogwumabiri Awgu, Obeagu, Nmaku, Mgbidi, Ihe, Okpanku, Mpu, to mention but a few.

“As a business, we are concerned about the inconveniences our customers in the affected communities are subjected to, its effect on their various businesses and the revenue losses we are recording as a service provider,” Ezeh added.

“Vandalism of power installations within the EEDC’s network has remained a cog in the wheel of progress. No day passes without an incident of vandalism in one or two locations within the network.

“Transformer vandalism is more rampant, but these days, we have cases where some spans of the network are vandalized, keeping hundreds of thousands of customers in darkness,” he stated.

Ezeh appealed to all electricity customers and the public, especially neighbourhood vigilantes to help in safeguarding the power installations serving them.

FA Cup: Tuchel defends decision on Tammy Abraham in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester

Published

on

Thomas Tuchel has explained why Tammy Abraham was not considered in his squad for the FA Cup final against Leicester City on Saturday.

The German tactician insisted it was a difficult decision for him to leave Abraham out of the team.

Abraham featured prominently for Chelsea under Frank Lampard before the coming of Tuchel in January.

But the England striker has fallen dramatically down the pecking order despite being the club’s top goalscorer this season.

The 23-year-old scored his first senior hat-trick in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Luton, which was Lampard’s final game at the helm.

Tuchel left the striker out of the team for the final on Saturday opting to start with Timo Werner up front.

He brought on Olivier Giroud during the closing stages as Chelsea tried, but ultimately failed, to find an equalising goal.

Asked after the game if Abraham simply wasn’t a player for him, Tuchel told Stadium Astro: “No, it’s just hard decisions on a matchday when you can only nominate 18 players.”
