Edo Guber Election: Latest Update on Obaseki/APC Row
As the ruling, All Progressives Congress has disqualified Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki from contesting again for the number one seat in the state ahead of the party’s primary election, here is the latest update from the actions taken by the party.
You have now become beggars, Wike mocks NGF
Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, has described the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) as a toothless bulldog, saying the governors had turned beggars since APC took over the leadership of the forum in 2015.
While noting that before 2015, the Governors’ Forum used to be very powerful, the governor said APC killed it because they were protecting the interest of the ruling party.
Wike is reacting to the visit of Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki to the state after being disqualified. The visit is reported to be part of moves for him to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and contest under the opposition party for the second time.
“During of one of the rerun elections in this state, my security aides were withdrawn, thus exposing me to danger; the forum did not say anything because the chairman was a member of the APC.
He, therefore, stated that the people of Edo State must say no to such impunity done in Rivers State in 2010, adding that Oshiomhole should apologize to the Edo people for campaigning for Obaseki four years ago, which he now said has a defective certificate.
Obaseki’ll soon join us, no automatic ticket, says Edo PDP chairman
The chairman of the Edo State chapter of PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, has confirmed that Obaseki and other top officials of the APC would soon join his party.
Aziegbemi, however, said the governor would not be given an automatic ticket to fly the party’s flag as other aspirants had shown interest in the same position that will be contested for during its governorship primary scheduled for June 19 and 20.
