Edo Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship hopeful, Felix Akhabue has dismissed as a storm in a teacup reports of a crisis in the state chapter of the party, saying that the issues in the rival All Progressives Congress, APC were far more contentious.
Speaking in an interview, Akhabue, a former chairman of Esan West Local Government Area also posited that he is the best qualified to be the PDP candidate and governor with his knowledge of the nook and cranny of the state.
Akhabue, a former state chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON and national president of the same body speaking in an interview on AIT’s Democracy Today, said:
“I don’t see problems in the PDP. Indeed, from outside you may be seeing it as a problem, but to me there is no problem in PDP. It has happened over the years and even when our national leader (Chief Tony Anenih) was alive it has always been like that to bring candidates.
“The truth is that after the PDP would have brought its candidate, they have internal mechanism for solving their problem. I have so much confidence in PDP and I will be the very first to buy the form when they start selling.”
Noting that the problems in the APC were far more contentious, he added:
“I can tell you that the APC even has more problem. It may not have burst out. To me the problem in PDP is not insurmountable. I also know that the governor as the leader of the party will look towards the need to have a peaceful transition. He needs PDP to take over from him. He needs continuity to sustain what he is doing. The only party that easily do that is the PDP. I know that as the leader of the PDP he wouldn’t want another party to take over from him and I believe that at the end of the day everything will be okay.”
Boasting his qualities, he added:
“I believe I am the only aspirant in the race that has worked harmoniously with the past three governors of the state. I want to be proved wrong I am the only aspirant today who has worked with the last three governors.
