EPL: Man City clears air on signing Harry Kane from Tottenham for £160m

Manchester City has rubbished reports that they have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign their striker, Harry Kane, for £160 million.

Reports had earlier emerged that Man City reportedly had one bid in excess of £100 million for Kane rejected last month by Tottenham, and they were said to have upped their bid this week.

The Citizen was also said to have prepared a £400,000-a-week contract for Kane that will see him become the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

However, according to Manchester Evening News, the Premier League champions have now dismissed talk of a fresh bid for Kane, adding that they are yet to submit another offer to Spurs for the England captain.

This comes following suggestions earlier this week that one of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez or Bernardo Silva could be offered as a player-plus-cash deal for Kane.

Meanwhile, Kane told Tottenham ahead of the recently concluded Euro 2020 that he wants to leave the club.

Kane’s current deal with Tottenham will expire in the summer of 2024.

Asked about Kane earlier this week, the new Tottenham coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, told reporters that Kane would not leave the club this summer.

Santo said, “Harry is our player, period. There’s no need to talk about anything else. Now is the time for him to rest [after the Euro 2020].”
