EPL: Parlour backs Arteta’s decision to drop Aubameyang in Arsenal’s win over Tottenham

A former Arsenal midfielder, Ray Parlour, has said he agrees with the club’s manager Mikel Arteta’s decision to drop captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the Gunners’ squad that defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Premier League derby on Sunday.

Arteta had confirmed that he dropped Aubameyang from Arsenal’s squad due to a ‘disciplinary issue’.

Reacting, Parlour backed Arteta’s decision to omit the Gabonese striker from the encounter, adding that nobody is bigger than the team.

“I totally agree with Mikel Arteta, nobody is bigger than the team,” Parlour told talkSPORT.

“I know Aubameyang is a very important player, captain as well, you have got to lead by example, but there’s no excuse for being late, is there?

“I should imagine they would have been in a hotel. Whether it’s for training, I don’t know. Whether it’s the day before for training or the day of the game, I’m not too sure about the whole story.

“I think Mikel Arteta did a really good interview after the game: “Look, it’s dealt with, I’ve had words with him, and now he’s ready for selection for Olympiakos on Thursday. Matter’s closed”.
