According to reports, the 51-year-old singer slumped in the early hours of Friday at his Lagos home.

He was later rushed to a hospital in the Lekki area of the state where he was confirmed dead.

Sammie Okposo was one of the most popular gospel artistes in nigeria and was active for more than two decades in the gospel ministry. Here are five things to know about him.

1. The Gospel singer’s career in singing can be dated back to 1992. He became a soundtrack producer in the Nigerian movie industry. This was the official start of his career as a producer. He then switched to making mmusic. Okposo had a career in music spanning more than two decades.

3. Sammie had earlier taken a step back in the ministry in January 2022 after being accused of cheating. He had also offered a public apology to his wife, Uzioma through his Instagram page for his infidelity.

The apology came a day after a lady, known only as African Doll, accused him of impregnating her and abandoning her. The artiste mentioned that his break from the music industry was a step in taking restoration and seeking forgiveness.

4. Okposo had worked with many other artistes, both in Africa and abroad. he had collaborated with popular gospel singer Marvelous Odiete on “Follow You”.

He had also performed regularly on several tours in Africa, Europe, and North America, and had curated a series of concerts called SOPP (Sammie Okposo Praise Party). His 2018 album, “The Statement”, was produced by the Grammy-winning Kevin Bond.

5. In May this year, Okposo escaped death after being involved in a ghastly car accident while driving on 3rd mainland bridge in Lagos.
