Today on Travel, we delve into the world of bridges in our beautiful continent, Africa. We unveil five of the longest you can find here. Interestingly, some span over 20.5km. Yes, they are that long and they connect a number of cities in the country they can be found.

We take you through this journey from Egypt to Mozambique and of course, Nigeria. Why don’t you read on to find the names of these bridges?

1. 6th October Bridge

Located in Cairo, Egypt, it is a highway that stretches to 20.5km. It was built across the Nile River and its construction was completed in 1996.

2. Third Mainland BridgeThird Mainland Bridge

Opened for use in 1990, it is one of the three bridges in Lagos linking the mainland to the island. Also known as the Ibrahim Babangida Bridge, it spans around 10.5 km. It is the longest bridge in Nigeria.

3. Suez Canal BridgeSuez Canal Bridges

Again, we go back to Egypt where this bridge is located; specifically in El Qantara. It covers a distance of 3.9 km and connects Africa and Eurasia. It is also called Shohada 25 January Bridge.

4. Mozambique Island Bridge

It is a 3.8km bridge located on the Island of Mozambique. Completed in 1969, the bridge crosses  the Indian Ocean and connects the Island of Mozambique to the mainland.

5. Dona Ana BridgeDona Ana Bridge

It is a rail bridge built to help wayfarers across the Zambezi River. It covers a distance of 3.67 km and connects the towns of Mutarara and Vila de Sena. Also, it was completed in 1934.
