Hope Ignites For Nigeria As Blessing Oborodudu Qualifies For Women’s Wrestling
There is hope, Biblical Job said, for a tree: if cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail. Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump die in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant. This seems to be the case of Nigeria in the ongoing Olympics 2020 as Blessing Oborodudu, Nigerian female wrestler qualifies for the finals.
Many have lost hope in the Nigerian teams across the various sports and games in the Tokyo Olympics but one of them is now guaranteed to win a gold or silver medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. Recall that Oborodudu won a gold medal at the Gold Coast 2020 Commonwealth Games in the 68 kg women’s freestyle wrestling event, defeating Canada’s Danielle Lappage. In the ongoing Olympics, she had defeated Azerbaijani’s Elis Manolova and Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan to advance to her first Olympic semi-finals, and defeated Elis Manolova of Azerbaijan 13-2 to reach the quarter-final
