How accountant shot by robbers died after allegedly being rejected by Lagos hospitals

An accountant who was shot by robbers in Lagos died after allegedly being rejected by hospitals.

Odiri Onosigho, 32, was waiting at the First Gate bus stop, Festac, in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, on April 15, when he was shot by robbers trying to collect his phone.

His sister, who spoke to Punch, narrated how he died after Lagos hospitals allegedly rejected him due to a lack of police report.

On the fateful day, Odiri and his friend, Michelle, were at the bus stop around 6am, waiting to board a bus to work.

While waiting, robbers appeared suddenly and shot Odiri in the chest while dispossessing him of his phone.

Passers-by and commuters ran to safety and when Michelle returned to search for Odiri, she found him lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood.

Odiri’s elder sister, Atarhe, told Punch that efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive as the hospitals that Michelle and some good Samaritans rushed him to for treatment allegedly rejected him because of the absence of a police report.

The Delta State indigene stated, “I was preparing to go to work when I got a call from my sister, Sarah, who said Odiri was dead. I asked how and she said I should start coming to Festac, because that is where our father’s house is located.

“So, my husband and I drove down to the Festac Police Station, where I saw Odiri’s corpse. When I asked what happened, I was told that he was on his way to work and unfortunately, he was at the First Gate bus stop with his colleague, Michelle, when an armed robber shot him in the chest, while dispossessing him of his phone.

“Everyone ran to find cover and after everything had settled, Michelle looked for my brother and found him bleeding on the ground, but he was still alive.

“She started calling for help but nobody helped until she saw a group of Igbo guys speaking in her local dialect and as they saw her crying, they offered to help. They put my brother in a tricycle and rushed him to the Mother and Child Hospital, opposite First Gate.”

Atarhe alleged that Odiri was rejected by the government hospital on the pretext that it was only attending to mothers-to-be, new mothers and their new born children, adding that he died after other private hospitals in Festac refused him treatment because of the failure to obtain a police report.

She said, “So, they left the government hospital and rushed him to a hospital, but they rejected him there too; they also took him to two other hospitals, but he was similarly rejected. All these hospitals were asking for a police report.

“At a point, Michelle was helpless and had to rush to my father’s house to inform our family members that Odiri had been shot. My dad and sisters all rushed down to the third hospital, where my father pleaded with the doctor on duty to check his son, but at that point, he had already died.

“He was shot close to his heart and the pellets had spread all over his body, because he was shot with a local gun. He was taken to the fourth hospital on 21 Road, for confirmation and we were told that he was already dead. That was on Thursday, April 15, 2021.”

The bereaved condemned the hospitals for their “lackadaisical” attitude.

Odiri has been buried.

Zinedine Zidane to leave Madrid at the end of the season

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane plans to leave the club at the end of this season, according to new reports.

Zidane, who made his name as a player in the early 2000s and came back to win three champions league titles for Madrid as a coach told his players that he would not be coaching the team next season just before their clash with Sevilla last week, according to a report by GOAL.

The report says the Frenchman said he will walk away from the club at the end of the 2020-21 season, making it the second time he has resigned from ., having previously quit following Madrid’s third consecutive Champions League triumph in 2020.

The major reason given for his decision to quit is that Zidane is  physically and mentally fatigued.

With his decision to resign, there are now rumours linking the Frenchman to a sensational return to Juventus where he made his name as a player.

But it is doubtful whether he would be prepared to jump back into coaching so soon after leaving Madrid.

With two games left to play, Zidane’s men are currently second, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, with Barcelona a further two back in third.

Stop Waiting For Aso Rock – Atiku Tells Nigerian Governors

Published

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has urged governors from all states to come together and solve the insecurity facing the country as a whole.

According to him, the governors should forge a national mindset and not a regional mindset to be able to come out of the challenges. Taking to his Twitter page, he advised the governors to be united.

His tweet reads: “Governors representing some states have met. And I completely understand the necessity of their meeting and the wisdom of their decisions. But no matter how much you try to clap with one hand, the vibrations will not be the same as when you clap with two hands.

“ We have a national challenge. And as Albert Einstein said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

“These problems were created by those with a regional mindset, and will not be solved by those with a similar mindset.

“For too long, we have erroneously thought that the power to make effective changes lies at Aso Rock. But without the states, nobody can get to Aso Rock.”

“Let us apply this wisdom to our present challenges on Nigerian Governors to stop waiting on Abuja to make changes, and instead convene a National Unity Summit of all Nigerian Governors to iron out the thorny issues affecting the destiny of our nation until they figure out a way to resolve them.

“ Forget about your party. Forget about your tribe. Respect your religion and allow it to bring out the better part of you. Meet together. Talk together. Come up with the solutions to all our collective challenges. And then go back to your states, and consult with your federal and state legislators, with a view to getting them to work with their colleagues to implement the solutions you came up with that is how to save Nigeria.

“To keep waiting for this Federal Government to take the lead, and effect the changes that Nigeria needs to stop drifting, is to keep waiting for Godot. And that is a luxury we cannot afford. “

Since the Kroenke family came under fire for their handling of the club ever since the failure of the Super League, a possible takeover from Ek, a lifelong Arsenal fan has been in the works.

Ek came out last month to reveal he will be interested in buying the club leading Arsenal fans and icons to dream of such a takeover.

Despite fan opposition to the continued ownership of the Kroenkes, Ek has now revealed that the family has rejected his takeover bid.

“Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bid for Arsenal Football Club,” Ek wrote on his official Twitter account.

“I think it’s important to correct the record – this week an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at the board and a golden share for the supporter.

“They replied that they don’t need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change.”

Stan Kroenke first joined the Arsenal board of directors in 2008 with a minority stake in the club, and he continued to accumulate shares until becoming majority shareholder three years later, while in 2020 he bought out rival Alisher Usmanov to take full control.

Back in April Kroenke released a statement in which he assured that his family were “100 per cent committed” to Arsenal.

Arsenal is valued at over £2 billion .
