Savage, 41, said:

“I actually did try to bleach my skin when I was about, I think, 14, 15. Even now, on my back I have patches… My mom, she was cleaning my room and saw the cream that I used to mix with lemons. She wasn’t even angry. It was more her disappointment. So I stopped, but I was always insecure about being dark.”

Inmates who escaped Suleja prison recaptured

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that at least ten out of the 119 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State have been recaptured.

The escape was caused by a rainstorm that caused damage to parts of the facility’s structures on Wednesday night.

However, the NCoS has swiftly activated recapturing mechanisms, collaborating with sister security agencies.

So far, 10 inmates have been recaptured, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining 109 fugitives.

“The Service is not unmindful of the fact that many of its facilities were built during the colonial era, and that they are old and weak.

“The Service is making frantic efforts to see that all ageing facilities give way for modern ones. This is evidenced in the ongoing construction of six (6) number of 3000-capacity ultra-modern custodial centres in all the geo-political zones in Nigeria as well as the ongoing reconstruction and renovation of existing ones.
