I told him he will kneel down, get slapped and will apologize to me and it happened

A young Nigerian lawyer has narrated what happened to a police officer who slapped him after he and his colleagues tried to “falsely imprison” him at their station by allegedly asking him to pay gate fee.
@princejalil11 said he was driving when he was accosted by police officers who were in a white unregistered danfo bus. He said they told him to park as they want to search him.
He revealed that after he got upset that they singled him out of everyone present, they asked him to follow them to their station.
The Twitter user disclosed that after they went through his car documents and also found nothing from the search they conducted, they tried to “falsely imprison” him at their station by asking him to pay a gate fee before being allowed to go.
The lawyer revealed that while he tried to explain his part by stating that he committed no crime and should be allowed to go, a police officer came up to him and slapped him more than four times.
He said he turned and told the policeman that he will kneel down, get slapped and will apologize to him and it all happened. He also shared a video of the police officer begging.

A white unregistered danfo bus blocked me as i was driving and three police men came out. they said i should park that they want to search me and i asked why me out of everyone driving? that upset them and they entered the car and told me to drive to the police station
On getting there , they searched my car and found nothing. they asked for my license and documents which i presented to them. this took over 30 minutes btw. i was already getting irritated and asked them what i’m still being held for
The policeman who brought me to the station told me i could go. on my way out another policeman stopped me and said i can’t leave without paying gatefee. i said what do you mean by gatefee? i’ve been searched and permitted to leave
AdvertisementHe told me to go and look for the men who brought me (they had suddenly disappeared , i know it was a plan) i couldn’t see them and asked to leave and told him that him keeping me there against my will when i have committed no crime is false imprisonment.
Then more policemen came and told me i cannot leave. i kept trying to say my part then one of them came and started slapping me. guy slapped me more than 4 times. i then told him that today he will kneel down , get slapped and he will apologize to me. which all happened.

Sweden announces it will apply to join NATO

The Swedish government has confirmed it intends to apply for membership of Nato, joining neighboring Finland in a similar decision following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to date.
“There is a broad majority in Sweden’s parliament for Sweden to join Nato,” said the prime minister, Magdalena Andersson. “This is the best thing for the security of Sweden and its people … We are leaving one era behind us and entering a new one.”
Andersson told reporters after a parliamentary debate on Monday that Sweden would be “in a vulnerable position” while the application was processed, but that ministers saw no direct military threat from Russia at present.
Before the announcement, Stockholm had received security assurances from key partners, including the US, Britain, Germany, and France, she said, and on Monday Denmark, Norway and Iceland also pledged support, saying they would “assist Finland and Sweden, by all means, necessary” if they were attacked before obtaining Nato membership.
However, the government “can’t exclude that we will be subjected, for example, to disinformation and attempts to scare and divide us”, Andersson said, adding that if its application was approved, Sweden would not want permanent Nato military bases or nuclear weapons on its territory.
The decisions by the two Nordic governments drew an initial response from Moscow.
Russia’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said the countries “should have no illusions that we will simply put up with it”, calling the move “another grave mistake with far-reaching consequences” and warning that the “general level of military tension will increase”.
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, later said Moscow did not see Finnish and Swedish Nato membership as a direct threat in itself. “Russia has no problem with these states – none,” Putin said.
“And so in this sense there is no immediate threat to Russia from an expansion of Nato to include these countries,” he said. He warned, however, that deployment of military infrastructure on their territories “would certainly provoke our response”.
The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, also said Moscow would “follow very carefully what will be the consequences” of the Nordic nations’ move “for our security, which must be ensured in an absolutely unconditional manner”.
This comes after the Finnish government confirmed its intention to join Nato on Sunday, shortly before Andersson’s ruling Social Democrats abandoned decades of opposition to back a Swedish bid for membership, making Monday’s Riksdag debate a formality.
Russia has previously advised both countries against joining Nato, saying such a move would oblige it to “restore military balance” by strengthening its defences in the Baltic Sea region, including by deploying nuclear weapons.

2023: Sylva withdraws presidential bid

Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress
Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has withdrawn from the presidential race in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has returned to work.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored development at the ministry in Abuja on Monday reports that Sylva withdrew having considered the enormous work at hand at the ministry.
NAN reports that the Northern Solidarity Group had on May 9, presented the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination form to the minister to enable him to contest the party’s 2023 presidential primaries.
An official at the ministry who chose to remain anonymous said Sylva withdrew from the race to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his quest to achieve a robust oil sector.
“He promised to consult the leader of the country and his political leaders the day he was presented with the form.
“He believes that concentrating on his work will attract more investments for the oil and gas sector.
“He has consulted and he believes that the challenges at the ministry and oil and gas sector are enough issues for him to begin to deal with now than going to pursue presidential ambition at the expense of the nation.
“The oil and gas sector is the mainstay of the economy and it is not like any other ministry somebody can just come in and take over.
“It requires some measures of time for the person to understand what is happening in the system.
“For the interest of the industry and the nation, he has decided to wave that personal ambition to see what he can contribute in the remaining part of President Buhari’s administration.
“The implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 is very critical and he wants to continue to make his own contribution to the day-to-day running of the country and support Mr President for robust achievements,” the official said.
Meanwhile, Mr Horatious Egua, Senior Special Assistant to the minister on media, when contacted, confirmed to NAN that the minister was back to work. (NAN)
