I‘ll purchase N100m nomination forms with my hard-earned savings – Emefiele

Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress
Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, says he is yet to make up his mind whether or not to run for president in 2023.
Recall that a supposed group of farmers, under the aegis of a coalition of commodity associations in Nigeria, had on Friday, purchased the All Progressives Congress’ N100m presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for Emefiele.
This prompted widespread criticism, with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the apex bank’s boss.
But in a series of tweets on Saturday, Emefiele said he would purchase the party’s N100m presidential forms with his hard-earned savings should he ultimately join the race.
He, however, said he has not come to that decision yet.
He wrote, “I am humbled by the growing interest of those asking that I run for the Office of President in the 2023 general elections: I have not come to that decision. I note and salute the sacrifices of those farmers and patriots going as far as raising personal fund and offering me Presidential Nomination Forms: I thank them most profusely.
“However, Should I answer their calls and decide to seek presidential nomination, I will use my own hard earned savings from over 35 years of banking leadership to buy my own Nomination Forms without proxies in an open and transparent manner in full compliance with the laws and Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. And should I not run for elected office without proxies in an open and transparent manner in full compliance with the laws and Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. And should I not run for elected office.
“I will continue to serve and sacrifice for the good people of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is a serious decision that requires God’s Divine intervention: in the next few days, the Almighty will so direct”.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson blames Buffalo supermarket shooting on Biden and mental illness, ignores race conspiracy theory

Tucker Carlson, the controversial FOX news TV host has blamed the Buffalo, New York shooting on mental illness of the shooter and US president, Joe Biden.
On May 14, 2022, a mass shooting occurred in Buffalo at a Tops Friendly Markets store, a supermarket in the Kingsley neighborhood on the eastern side of the city.
Ten people were killed, and three others were injured; 11 of the victims were black. The shooter, livestreamed the attack on Twitch.
The accused, identified as 18-year-old Payton S. Gendron of Conklin, New York, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
In an online manifesto, Gendron claimed the right-wing conspiracy theory that white people are being taken over by minorities. But Carlson, has now come out to blame plenty of other factors for the weekend shooting that left 10 people dead.
In the past Carlson has repeatedly theorized that minorities are trying to take over the US, and called the shooter a mentally sick person who shouldn’t blame his shooting ok racism.
“What is hate speech?” Carlson said on Fox News.
“Well, it’s speech that our leaders hate. So because a mentally ill teenager murdered strangers, you cannot be allowed to express your political views out loud. That’s what they’re telling you.”
“Gendron’s screed, which laid out careful plans to kill as many Black people as possible, as well as Jewish people in New Jersey, isn’t actually a racist manifesto, Carlson argued.
“It’s definitely racist, bitterly so. Gendron reduces people to their skin color and that’s the essence of racism and it’s immoral. But what he wrote does not add up to a manifesto. It is not a blueprint for a new extremist political movement, much less the inspiration for racist revolution. Anyone who claims that it is is lying or hasn’t read it.”
Instead, he said, the 180-page document is “a rambling pastiche of slogans and Internet memes, some of which flatly contradict one another.”
“The document is not recognizably left-wing or right-wing; it’s not really political at all.
“The document is crazy. It’s a product of a diseased mind.” Carlson said.
“He writes like the mental patient he is — disjointed, irrational, paranoid. Now, that’s true, not that it makes the atrocities he committed easier to bear. If your daughter was murdered Saturday in Buffalo, you wouldn’t care why the killer did it or who he voted for.”
Then, Carlson blamed the Democrats, including President Joe Biden, for a “coordinated campaign to blame those murders on their political opponents.”
The Fox News host also blamed the spread of white identity politics on race politics, comparing it to the Rwandan genocide.
“All race politics is bad, no matter what flavor it is. It’s poison. It subsumes the individual into the group. It dehumanizes people,” he said. “It elevates appearance over initiative and decency, and all the other God-given qualities that make people unique yet morally equal to each other.”
The solution, he said, is to move toward a “colorblind meritocracy” where we ignore races.

Pilot who fell unconscious midflight is home from hospital as doctors say his recovery is ‘miraculous’

The pilot who fell unconscious last week mid-flight has made a recovery that his doctor is calling “a miracle.”
After the pilot lost consciousness, a passenger with no experience on how to fly a plane succeeded in landing the plane, saving all three people on board from crashing.
Darren Harrison, 39, successfully landed the plane at Palm Beach International Airport, where emergency personnel then rushed the pilot to St. Mary’s Medical Center before he was transferred to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.
The pilot, whose name has not been released, is now out of the hospital and resting at home after he underwent surgery for an aortic dissection, according to the hospital.
An aortic dissection is a life-threatening emergency in which a tear occurs in the inner layer of the body’s main artery.
Dr. Nishant Patel, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center who treated the pilot, revealed how long the odds were that the man would survive the landing, the trips to the two hospitals and then the surgery.
Patel said on Tuesday, May 17: “Fifty percent of patients won’t make it to the hospital, and then 50% of patients that do make it to the hospital will pass away within 24 hours without prompt diagnosis and treatment.”
The pilot was released from the hospital on Monday, May 16.
It’s a “really quite miraculous recovery, miraculous story,” Patel said.
Emergency personnel initially thought the pilot had potentially suffered a stroke before doctors at St. Mary’s discovered a tear in his aorta, according to Patel. He was quickly transferred to the second hospital for emergency surgery.
“First thing he asked me (after the surgery) is, ‘Doc, when am I going to go home?’ which I thought was really quite amazing,” Patel said. “Everything about this guy is just truly, truly amazing. He definitely understands everything that happened, and how severe the situation was on so many different levels before the hospital, in the operating room, and during recovery.”
Patel said the pilot was in great health before the cardiac event and has already done “remarkably well” in his recovery.

Court dissolves marriage over doubtful paternity

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos State has ordered the dissolution of the marriage between Mr. Jose Salami and Mrs. Sola Jaiyeola, on grounds of the doubtful paternity of their only child.
Vanguard reports that in a petition filed before the court, Salami, a resident of Number 9, Bakare St., Igando, Lagos State, said he doubted the paternity of the only child produced by the union.
“In March 2013, she said she was a month pregnant for me; so, I arranged for a traditional marriage to be done. But to my surprise, my wife put to bed in July of that same year, and when I asked how possible it was, she waived it aside.
The petitioner said that later, she told him to move on with his life as she was no longer interested in the marriage. He urged the court to dissolve the marriage, saying that he was approaching 50 years of age and needed to move on.
In his judgment, the President of the court, Adeniyi Koledoye, said that it appeared the love between the couple had since perished. He noted that the respondent did not show up in court in spite of several summons.
“There is no doubt that the respondent was in another relationship from which she was pregnant, and perhaps the pregnancy was rejected and she decided to hang it on the petitioner. However, the petitioner ought to have opted out of the marriage immediately he discovered that the paternity of the child was doubtful. It is clear the petitioner was deceived into the marriage by the respondent,” the judge held
Koledoye, therefore, dissolved the marriage and ordered the respondent to pay N200,000 to the petitioner.
