I’m Still Optimistic About Super Eagles – JJ Okocha

Former Super Eagles captain, Autin JJ Okocha has said that the team can still spring surprises and qualify from the group D at the ongoing world cup.

He said this during an exclusive interview with our correspondent, adding that the Super Eagles should not be written off because they lost their first match to Croatia.

Okocha said that the players were young and lacked experience but that they were promising and could go all the way to surprise the world.

As he put it, “These are Nigerians. They like doing things in a hard way. I’m very optimistic that Super Eagles can do something and qualify from the group.”

The team lost to Croatia in its opening match but will be playing against Iceland on Friday in a must-win game to redeem the hope of qualifying in the group.

Earlier, Iceland and Argentina had played 1-1 draw. Okocha noted that the tactics employed by Coach Gernot Rohr actually deflated Nigerian lads, adding that some of the players played the roles they had never played before.

He called on the team coach, Gernot Rohr to be brave in his selection by not attaching sentiment if he wishes to get the result.
