Finding a balance between building a successful career and being a mother is not an easy task, but our mogulette for this week, Nonye Ndukwe-Onuoha, is doing that without flinching.
Nonye is a stylist and the brain behind Style Block. She started her own retail line in 2017 and has worked with a lot of celebrities and brands in Nigeria including Beverly Naya, Kate Henshaw, Coronation Merchant Bank, Wapic Insurance, Fidelity, Honeywell and so many others.
She decided to venture into the fashion industry after falling in love with some stylists she had come in contact with while working at a radio station. She also credits her stylish mother and fashion designer aunt for her sense of style.
She got her first degree in Linguistics, and to pursue her passion, she went on to study courses in personal fashion styling at the London College of Fashion. While she currently works mostly on production sets for movies and advert campaigns, she hopes to, one day very soon, expand into all aspects of the styling business.
Just like every other business owner in the world, Nonye has faced various challenges but she is not backing down on her brand’s vision to thrive beyond the shores of Nigeria!
In her own words:
“I want to give this brand wings to fly. There are so many things I really want to do but our environment isn’t just enabling enough but I keep pushing.”
To other entrepreneurs, she has one piece of advice – “brighten your corner in whatever little way you can.”
