Nigeria COVID-19 Update

Nigeria now has 11 cases of COVID-19 after fourteen new cases emerged yesternight.

Out of the fourteen, nine were from Lagos while the remaining five came from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Out of the 111 cases, three have been discharged after testing negative twice during the quarantine period while there is only one death so far.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu had during his chat on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily said that more cases are being expected in the coming days.

We expect cases of COVID-19 to rise as we improve the capacity to detect and test. Our labs are activated to function 24/7. We appeal to Nigerians to work with us in compliance with the measures instituted by the President.

He also appealed to Nigerians to help the government curtail the spread by adhering to the medical instructions.

“Our ability to flatten the curve of COVID-19 depends on all Nigerians. Our goal is to mobilise all available resources to tackle it. We remain grateful for the support we have received so far from stakeholders and partners.”

He also revealed that his team is working round the clock to improve turn-around time for testing in all our six molecular laboratories.

Being the epicenter of the reader virus, Lagos state government has converted the Mobolaji Stadium to isolation with the installation of 110 beds. With the latest development, Lagos now has 68 cases. Other include FCT- 21, Ogun- 3, Enugu- 2, Ekiti- 1, Oyo- 7, Edo- 2, Bauchi- 2, Osun-2, Rivers-1 ,Benue- 1 and Kaduna- 1.
