Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has initiated an investigation into the “security situation” at the Rivers state house of assembly complex.
Lifestyle Nigeria reports that in a statement on Monday, the police said it will take immediate action against those responsible for the chaos at the complex.
A section of the assembly complex was set ablaze on Sunday, causing significant concern. The situation escalated on Monday, when police officers allegedly deployed teargas canisters and water cannons towards the convoy of Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of the State.
In response, the police stated, “We’re aware of the security situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. We’ve launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances and will take immediate actions against those responsible.”
Earlier on Monday, Governor Fubara expressed concerns that security operatives have been compromised and claimed that they had fired shots at him within the assembly complex.
He stated that he does not stand against anyone and does not understand the source of the political crisis in the state.
