Ogun governor’s wife makes case for drug addicts

The wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun has called on Nigerians not to neglect drug addicts in the society, rather, they should assist them to quit the habit.

She made the call in Abeokuta after being decorated as the Executive Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command.

Mrs Abiodun said the victims of drug abuse would still be useful to their communities when people embrace them.

She attributed the prevalence of drug abuse to economic circumstances that should be properly managed by individuals.

The Governor’s wife advocated resilience and circumspect in people’s responses to unpalatable situations, as drugs should not be seen as a social instrument by the youths nor be a solace for socio-economic problems, particularly in children from broken homes.

She also emphasised the need for an aggressive campaign against the menace by everyone, pledging her support to the NDLEA and other sister agencies, to curb the use of illicit drugs.

Earlier in her presentation, the new Commander, NDLEA, Ibinabo Archie-Abia, said it was imperative to curb the prevalence of drug use in the country, adding that collaborative efforts would serve as a remedy to the unpleasant situation.
