An alleged kidnap kingpin who had been on the run since being wanted in 2015 has been nabbed by the Anambra State Police Command.
The suspect, Mathew Edozieuno Nwankwo, was allegedly a kidnapper for a ruthless gang that terrorised the state during the time of former Governor Willie Obiano.
Nwankwo supposedly left the state when his gang members were arrested. He has recently returned, apparently under the impression that he can live peacefully now that Willie Obiano’s administration has ended.

However, on Tuesday morning, the state Police Command received a tip that led to the arrest of Nwankwo in his home village of Nteje, Oyi local government area.
When Nwankwo was on the run, his house and gang members’ homes in the Nteje and Umueri communities of the Anambra East local government area were demolished.
Mr Solomon Chibuzor Morah, aka Mmili, and Hyacinth Chibudu had their homes demolished as well, according to the leader of the demolition team, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Agugoesi.
Agugoesi claims that the gang members were demanding and receiving large sums of money in ransom, claiming that the group had once demanded and received N70 million from one of their victims.
Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, the state’s police public relations officer, has confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is currently in police custody while additional investigations are conducted.
