Mr. Festus Keyamo, who serves as the spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the name of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was omitted from the list of campaign council members as a result of a directive issued by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement that was released on Saturday, Keyamo said that President Buhari had instructed that the names of Vice President Osinbajo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, be omitted so that they could focus on the governance of the country.
He stated that the important government functionaries could not resign from their positions in order to run for election.
The spokesperson emphasized that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had the mandate of the people of Nigeria to administer the country on their behalf at least until May 29, 2023, and that the party intends to do so with all sense of responsibility. This mandate was given to the APC by the people of Nigeria.
He said, “Our attention has been drawn to some stories making the rounds that there may be something amiss within the family of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the name of our own revered and respected Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, is not included in the list of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.” He added, “Our attention has been drawn to some stories making the rounds that there may be something amiss within the family of
“This statement could not be further from the truth. To clear up any confusion, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR is serving as the Chairman of the Campaign Council at this time. As a consequence of this, Mr. President has given the SPECIFIC direction that the Vice-President and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, should be removed from their positions on the Campaign Council so that they can focus on the administration of the Government and the governance of the country.
“In order to maintain our status as a responsible Party and Administration, it is impossible for any of the senior officials of the government to step down from their posts in order to run for office.” The people of Nigeria have entrusted the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the burden of governing the country on their behalf at least until May 29, 2023, and we aim to carry out this mandate with the utmost sense of responsibility.
“We will not follow in the footsteps of those who ran the country in an irresponsible manner before us, and our Party is not in total disarray like those who desire to’rescue’ the country but cannot simply handle their own internal affairs,” they said. “We will not do what they did.”
