Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress
Nigeria will be up against some familiar opponents in their qualifying group for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles were drawn in Group A on Tuesday, where they will face Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau and Sao Tome or Mauritius.
The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone were in the same qualifying group as Nigeria for the 2021 AFCON and caused quite a stir in 2020.
With the Super Eagles leading 4-0 in Benin City, it looked like game over until the West African underdogs pulled off one of the greatest comebacks to draw level earn a 4-4 result.
The Super Eagles were also unable to beat the Leone Stars in Freetown, where the contest ended 0-0, but the three-time African champions still topped the group.
At the AFCON proper in Cameroon in January 2022, the Super Eagles were in the same group with Guinea Bissau, whom they defeated to win the group.
The toughest group in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers appears to be D, which has 2021 AFCON runners-up Egypt, Guinea, Malawi and Ethiopia.
Champions Senegal are in Group L with Benin Republic, Mozambique and Rwanda.
