While the year 2015 has brought with it some of the most amazing talents and we have continually seen a wave of remarkable creative entrepreneurs, incredibly skilled professionals and talented enthusiasts who have set out to change the game in the Nigerian creative sphere (art, fashion, photography, designers, makeup, etc.)
We are indeed glad that the Nigerian creative industry is progressively improving and at a tremendous pace and creative talents (who have usually been overlooked in the past) are getting recognition and rewards for their incredibly unique skills and finally, people are beginning to embrace creative professions as a profession in its own right.
Looking forward to an even more fulfilling 2016, we compiled a list of ten creative individuals, ‘game changers’ as we like to call them who are young, talented and passionate about what they do and are well on a mission to creating a new scenery in the Nigerian creative industry as we know it!
1. Fola David
Popularly known for his thrilling live performances and his celebrity drawings, this speed painter, pencil artist, model and a member of the 54artistry family, whose real name is Adefemi Fola is definitely making waves.
He recently made a drawing of international RnB star Trey Songz and was able to present it to the artiste at the latter’s recent visit to Nigeria. The unique and somewhat inspiring thing about this incredibly talented artist is that he is also a final year student of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Lagos.
Combining medical studies and art among other things definitely seems like such a feat which he seems to pull off so well and effortlessly too. We wish him success in his final level of medical studies and we patiently wait to see what this talented genius has in store for us!
2. Ara by Laide
Olaide Banjo is one passionate Nigerian make-up artist set to redefine beauty as we know it; especially with those who have been discriminated against and tagged by society as ‘not’.
This campaign was to prove that with the power of makeup, even albino women everywhere who run into difficulties with applying makeup can be made more beautiful with the right techniques and applications and with the right products. We definitely foresee her doing greater things.
3. Ima Mfon
When you quit your job as an IT Consultant to pursue a masters and a career in photography, most people look at you as crazy. Though quite new to the field professionally, Ima already has reached heights that most people dream of.
An editorial and fine art photographer whose works are usually centered on exploring socio-cultural identities, Ima’s series:‘Nigerian Identities’ earned him second place in the recently concluded Lagos Photo Festival Photography Competition and has been featured on CNN and other international platforms.
He is definitely a talent to look out for in the coming year.
4. Prince Meyson
The Lagos based beauty, lifestyle and celebrity photographer puts the ‘B-E-A-U’ in ‘BEAUTY’ when it comes to creating absolutely breath-taking images. He is also a member of the 54artistry family and we are definitely huge fans of his work.
Prince Meyson also organises photography workshops and photography classes that provide extensive technical and practical instructions from time to time. His recent photography works of the Ubi Franklin and Lilian Esoro wedding are simply an aesthetic delight.
5. Tunde TnT

Another creative member of 54artistry, Morolari Babatunde, popularly called Tunde TNT is another talented fashion designer to watch out for in this coming year. House of TNT has just released its new look book titled ‘The Red Affair Collection’, tagged #thestorybook which narrates the story of the regression of an initially loving relationship into an abusive one.
6. Okhai Akhigbe
‘Okhai’ is fast becoming a household fashion name and his illustrations are entirely unique having a signature look. When you see one of Okhai’s works you just know that it is his. Brought to limelight with his ‘Rad Men’s Series’ which featured many notable male fashion influencers earlier this year, he is said to be one of Nigeria’s foremost fashion illustrators and has gone on to create breath-taking illustrations that keep us wanting more.
He has also worked with several ready to wear and corporate retail line apparel designs for fashion houses in Nigeria. We definitely look forward to seeing your new offerings in 2016.
7. Chikezie Daniel
This emerging Nigerian fashion designer based in Abuja showcased his collection at the LFDW2015 and left us wanting more with his print designs. His label is a menswear brand that features a line of bespoke urban/high street shirts and his collection features a brilliant mix of stylish cuts, prints, monochrome patterns and textures, each fashionable piece in a unique blend that give the modern man an edgy and confident look.
8. Cassie Ikegbune
Talk about effortlessly chic? That’s Cassandra Ikegbune, also called Cassie Daves. This six foot model and fashion enthusiast is also a qualified medical doctor who graduated from University of Lagos.
Cassie is also a fashion and lifestyle blogger where she shares her personal style (which really is an interesting fun mix of everything), her fashion inspiration, modelling tips and all the extras! Definitely worth looking forward to next year with Cassie.
9. Eseoghene Odiete
This young designer is definitely one to watch out for in 2016. Her story is a truly inspiring one which makes one understand that entrepreneurship isn’t just about the capital. Eseoghene who graduated from Covenant University startedHesey Designs with very little savings and little experience as well.
Today however, Hesey Designs is a well-recognised brand and teaches thousands of women and youths how to make fashion accessories such as bags and shoes at little or no cost thereby helping other people start and grow their own businesses.
Right after graduating from Covenant University in 2013, she started her business with a $60 savings and little experience. Today, the millennial has been able to raise $60,000 equity free funds to further grow her business.
Also In 2014, Ese addressed female entrepreneurs at the Diamond Woman Enterprise program in October. Other speaking engagements include Future Awards enterprise program, Blank White sheet event on ‘How I developed a world class event, University of Lagos at the Girls inspire Girls event, University of Nairobi, Kenya 2014, I-Cube Event, Speaker at the British Deputy High Commission to members of the British council, DFID just to mention a few.
10. Princess Adesile
This ex-beauty queen and stylist is also a self-taught Makeup artist. Although graduating from Crescent University where she studied Information and Communication, she has towed the line of beauty and set up her own makeup outlet called Desile Pro.
She has also recently organised Bellea beau, a beauty and wellness exhibition/trade fair aimed to bridge the gap between manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors of beauty products and Fashion cook out; one the largest and most anticipated exhibitions in Lagos, Nigeria.
