After last year’s Oscars drama, what did the 95th edition bring to viewers and its nominees?
In a stunning night of glitz and glamour, the 95th Academy Awards ceremony honored the best films of 2022. The event, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, saw “Everything Everywhere All at Once” take home the coveted Best Picture award, with directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert also winning in the Directing category.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” starring Michelle Yeoh in the lead role, tells the story of a woman who finds herself in the midst of a multiverse crisis, battling to save all of existence. The film also features James Hong, Stephanie Hsu, and Jamie Lee Curtis in supporting roles.
The night’s other Best Picture nominees included “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness,” and “Women Talking.”
In the Best Director category, Kwan and Scheinert’s win was particularly notable as they were up against seasoned directors such as Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Todd Field (“Tár”), and Ruben Östlund (“Triangle of Sadness”).
Michelle Yeoh also received accolades, winning the Best Actress in a Leading Role for her outstanding performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Yeoh was up against a strong field of nominees in the 95th Oscars, including Cate Blanchett (“Tár”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”), and Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”).
