African bad girl and the Queen of Afrobeats Tiwa Savage has so much grown in the male-dominated music industry and become a name and force to reckon with. This did not come by favour or pity, we can proudly say she has worked her way to this point and it is only a thing of integrity to give her all the honour that she deserves.

The Beginning
Tiwa Savage had begun her music career in 1996 at age 16 doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli and Ms. Dynamite. While she is doing this, she proceeded to participate in the UK edition of The X Factor. She further went to study at Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in professional music in 2007 – all of which have prepared her greatly for this phase she enjoys now. In 2009, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, which allows her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia, Monica and Mýa. She then moved back to Nigeria to unleash all of her skills and talents at the forefront and her own person.\"\"Tiwa Savage got on Don Jazzy’s label, Mavins as the Queen of the Dynasty and served back to back hit songs. Her debut studio album Once Upon a Time was released on the 3rd of July 2013, supported by seven singles Kele Kele Love, Love Me, Without My Heart, Ife Wa Gbona featuring Leo Wonder, Folarin, Olorun Mi and Eminado featuring Don Jazzy. 8 years down the line, Tiwa Savage has only gotten better in her craft and all and sundry can see that.
On the 19th of December 2015, Savage released her second studio album R.E.D, which is an acronym for Romance, Expression and Dance. The album features guest appearances from Don Jazzy, Olamide, Dr SID, Iceberg Slim, 2face Idibia, D’Prince, Busy Signal and Reekado Banks. On 29 July 2016, she announced signing a a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation, making her the first Nigerian artist to be signed to the label. In May 2020, she announced her record deal with Universal Music Group and left Mavin Records. In 2021, she got featured on the remix of reggar legend Bob Marley’s song Jamming. \"\"Growing Up
Tiwa Savage was born Tiwatope Savage on the 5th of February 1980 (41 years old), in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria. Her family relocated to London when she was 11 years old at the completion of her Primary School education. Over there, began her Secondary School education and was a trombone player for her school’s orchestra band. Savage graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Kent, and started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland. Soon enough, she left her left her bank job and took on music, fi9rst by studying. While reminiscing about her experiences at Berklee’s, Tiwa Savage said she was motivated by the drive and passion of the younger students, and that she needed the school’s atmosphere.

Tiwa Savage got married to her beau, Tunji Balogun, TeeBillz, who was first legally married to Kenea Udoh and then had a child with Vivian Oputa, in November 2013, the same year she started out music in Nigeria. The traditional wedding held at the Ark in Lekki, Lagos and in April the following year, they had an elaborate white wedding – their destination wedding which took place in Dubai and was graced by tons of celebrities, friends, family, well-wishers and of course the press. Starting out as platonic friends, TeeBillz and Tiwa Savage discovered a connection between them and decided to take it to the next level. It had grown from a manager/artist relationship to a mutual friendship, and then a romantic experience. They welcomed baby Jamil in 2015 but the following year ushered in a horrible episode.\"\"Teebillz uploaded vile posts and messages on Instagram, portraying his wife as unfaithful and irresponsible, followed by strong suicidal posts. Moments after the Instagram posts, Teebillz was said to be found at the Lekki-lkoyi bridge attempting to jump into the lagoon but was fortunately rescued by friends and co-stars, Banky W and Peter Okoye. In reaction to TeeBillz’s accusations, Tiwa Savage granted a 45 minutes interview in which she depicted him a drug addict, irresponsible father, and a broke debtor. There and then, she said her marriage with him was over. She’s since been with her son and thriving by the day. In 2020, she won the Soundcity MVP African Video of the Year Award for her single 49-99, In 2020, she won the AFRIMA Best Female West Africa Award for the second time after a 2017 win. In 2020, she clinched MTV Europe Music Best African Art Award, becoming the first woman to win the category. In 2015, she won COSON Song Awards for Best Collabo for Girlie O (with Patoranking). She won 2014 Headies’ Best Reggae/Dancehall Single for same song and then Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Pop/R&B Artist of the Year. Same 2014, she won African Muzik Magazine’s Best Female West Africa Award, City People Entertainment Musician of The Year (Female) Award and MTV Africa Music Best Female Award. In 2012, she won Nigeria Music Video NMVA’s Best Highlife Award for Ife Wa Gbona ft Leo Wonder, Headies’ Best Vocal Performance (Female) Award for Love Me (3x) and Channel O Music Video Awards’ Most Gifted R&B Music Video of the Year for Oyi (Remix) by Flavour N’abania featuring her. In 2011, she clinched 4 – City People Entertainment Awards’ Female Musician of the Year, Afrotainment Museke Online Music Awards’ Best R&B Soul Song for Kele Kele Love, FAB Magazine Awards’ Most Stylish Female Artiste and Dynamix All Youth Awards for the Most Promising Act. Year in year out, she gets loads of nominations, including Headies’ 2011 Next Rated and Dynamix All Youth Awards 2010’s Most Promising Act.\"\"

AFRIMA President speaks on fostering collaboration within African music community as BridgeAfric launches in Malawi |

South African billionaire commits suicide

A South African billionaire, Markus Jooste has committed suicide as he was found dead with a gunshot wound near Cape Town.

It was reported that the billionaire shot himself in the head while taking a walk just few minutes from his Stellenbosch home.

The former Steinhoff CEO had been involved in an accounting fraud scandal as he got a hefty fine on Wednesday.

Police are investigating, stating that no foul play is suspected.

“It is alleged that the victim sustained a gunshot wound at around 1520 (local time) at Kwaaiwater and succumbed to death on his way to hospital,” Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said in a statement.

Jooste’s death comes after a fine from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority for false financial statements linked to Steinhoff’s near-collapse in 2017 due to accounting irregularities.

El-Rufai Speaks On Dumping APC For SDP

A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied rumours of his planned defection of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai made an unexpected appearance at the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

The National Chairman of the SDP, Shehu Musa Gabam, and other chieftains of the party received the former Kaduna governor.

Reacting in a statement on Thursday issued by his spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai said he only visited the SDP headquarters to return a visit to the party’s chairman.

The former Minister said Gabam was among his friends who took part in the break of the Ramadan fast (Iftar) at his house in Abuja on Tuesday.

El-Rufai said he is known for being open and forthright, adding that his political decisions would not be subjected to speculation.
