Every year since 2005, The Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) have honoured influential entertainers for their contribution towards film, music, radio and many more.
This year is not any different as a number of our favourite female actresses and musicians bagged awards across the 25 categories. For such an important award show, the outline of the 2018 NEA winners is rather androcentric with less than ten Nigerian women winning across the board. While we’re not too surprised by this given our male-dominated industry, we would love to see more women on this list in the coming years.
This year’s edition, held in Washington DC, featured entertainers like Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy and Seyi Shay, who have released and featured in some of the hottest projects this year. That said, here are some of the women who won major awards at this year’s NEA:.
Most Promising Act
Best Lead Role
Best TV Show
Funke Akindele – Jenifa’s Diaries
African Female (Non-Nigerian)
Best Lead Role (Non-Nigerian)
