Transfer expert, Alex Crook has revealed why Adrian Rabiot and Cody Gakpo are yet to join Manchester United.

For Rabiot, Crook revealed that his representative and mum, Veronique, is waiting to see if Monaco progress past the Champions League qualifier before engaging in further talks.

After the failure to land Marko Arnautovic from Italy, the Red Devils have shifted the attention to PSV winger, Gakpo as they continue their scattergun approach to the transfer window.

The football transfer expert suggested that both players wanted to see the outcome of the Champions League qualification games played last where PSV faced Monaco.

Monaco, who wanted to snatch Rabiot from Manchester United face an uphill task to qualify for the competition after losing to PSV last night, meaning that United would now work harder to convince Gakpo to join them as he would prefer to play in the competition with PSV rather than playing in the Europa League with the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old PSV Eindhoven youngster would join the likes Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord if he decides to play for Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Crook said, “He’s viewed as a cheaper alternative to Antony who Erik ten Hag wanted to bring with him from his old club Ajax.

“PSV Eindhoven play Monaco in the Champions League qualifier tonight and this could be quite a key game for Manchester United’s recruitment department.

“He is represented by his mum Veronique who is waiting to see if Monaco – who also want Rabiot – progress past the Champions League qualifier before engaging in further talks.”
