The president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that due to the myriad of problems bedeviling the country, the starting point of his administration might not be rosy but assured Nigerians that they would surmount the challenges rapidly.

He said this yesterday in Abuja at the Jumat prayer and lecture held as part of activities lined up for the May 29 handover ceremony.

Tinubu, who was represented by the vice president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, said he was aware they were short of time, and that delay might compound the deteriorating situation of the country.

According to him, the issue of subsidy removal and the multiple exchange rate system, among others, have become a serious challenge that the administration must surmount in record time.

He said, “Tinubu is a fair-minded person. He will do justice to nigeria irrespective of affiliation with political parties, religious and tribal background. We are united by our common heritage of poverty and insecurity among others.  This is time for all of us to form a coilate into a single force.

“Ours is a great country waiting to unleash its great potential to the world. China was once called a sleeping giant, but today, China had woken up. nigeria needs to wake up. We are calling on all of you to pray for us for God’s guidance. I want to assure you that Tinubu will hit the ground.

“We do not have the luxury of time. The challenges facing us are getting worse. We are living in a pressing time, but be rest assured that in the fullness of time, nigeria will pay glow tributes to us. The starting point might not be rosy, let me be very honest with you

“To my sisters, be rest assured that you would be well represented in the incoming administration. Not only this, I promise that you will be well compensated,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Muhammmadu Buhari yesterday took the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on a familiarisation tour of Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The symbolic event ahead of Monday’s presidential inauguration ceremony was carried out after the duo had observed Jum’aat prayers at the State House Mosque.

The State Chief of Protocols (SCoP), Ambassador Lawal Kazaure, provided necessary information on the tour around the president’s office building and other affiliated offices, including the Executive Council Chamber, Tea Room, the Press Gallery, and the State House Banquet Hall.

Presidency officials and security personnel accompanied both Buhari and Tinubu during the familiarisation visit.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, later said the president-elect took all explanations and interacted freely with the president and acknowledged State House officials as they went round. They also spoke at personal levels.

While reacting to a question after the Jumu’at prayers and tour, the president-elect said he prayed to God to give him strength, wisdom and good health to run the affairs of the country.

He urged Nigerians to support the All Progressives Congress’s change agenda.

He also spoke on his “Renewed Hope” agenda to revamp nigeria’s economy, tackle security and poverty reduction, and what Nigerians should expect of him.

President Buhari said it was an honour and extraordinary privilege to serve the country and wished the incoming president success as he prepares to take office.

On Thursday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had equally taken the vice president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima on a tour of the Vice Presidential Wing of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
