Troops attack bandits; rescues Army Major

Major General CL Dating has been rescued from the den of his abductors.

The Major General regained his freedom when some troops raided the camp, where the general was held.

The MG has been in thier custody for almost a month after the bandits attacked the National defence Army on August 24, 2021 and abducted him.


Confirming his release, the Deputy Director Army Public Relations 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Ezindu Idimah announced the release of the Major General on Friday night. He also disclosed that the General has been receiving medical attention following the minor injury he sustained from them.

Speaking on the event that led to his release, he stated that a raid by the troops aided his release. He also stated that operation led to the death of several bandits and the destruction of it’s camps in Afaka Birnin Gwari areas of the state.

He said:

“The troops arrived at a camo suspected to be the location where Maj CL Datong was being held. At the camp, the troops exchanged fire with the bandits and overwhelmed them with superior fire.

In the process, the gallant troops were able to rescue the abducted officer. However, the officer sustained a minor injury but he has been treated in medical facility and handed over to NDA for further action”.

He commended the combined efforts of NAF, DSS, Nigerian Police and “patriotic Nigerians” for their invaluable support which contributed to the success of the operation.
