2023 Election: Nigerian Medical Association Denies Reports Of Endorsing Peter Obi, Says It’s Non-Partisan

Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has denied social media claims of endorsing presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, for president in 2023.

NMA made the clarification against social media reports that it has endorsed Obi.

The association said it is non-partisan and has not endorsed any presidential candidate in the forthcoming election.

Speaking in an interview, the President of the NMA, Dr Uche Ojinmah, said:

We are not against any candidate. We’re a non-partisan association. We wish all the candidates well and we hope Nigerians make a wise choice for a better nation in 2023.

On the agenda for the next president in the country, the NMA boss said importance must be placed on implementing the annual 15 per cent budget allocation to the health sector agreed in 2001 by African Heads of States in Abuja.

Nigerians are hungry and a hungry person cannot be a healthy person.

Why We Returned Advance Fees Paid By Ex-Gov, Yahaya Bello –  American International School clarifies

 

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that the American International School, Abuja has clarified that it turned over the school fees it accepted in good faith from Yahaya Bello to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) upon learning that it was part of an ongoing case with the authorities.

It acknowledged that as a school it did accept an advance payment for school fees, and duly documented the fees in its records.

In a statement on Saturday signed by Head of School, Greg Hughes, the international co-educational institution said as an institution, it remains committed to providing excellent service to the school community in line with its core values, vision and mission.

Hughes stressed that the school’s compliance to remit the funds underscores its commitment to upholding institutional integrity and its respect for the national institutions of Nigeria.

The statement reads in part, “Recent media reports have highlighted issues between the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AISA and a family with children enrolled at the school, stemming from an investigation carried out in 2022.

“As a school, we did accept an advance payment for school fees, and duly documented these fees in our records. Upon learning that the school fees we accepted in good faith were, in fact, part of an ongoing case with the EFCC, we turned over these funds in compliance with this federal commission’s request.

Rivers State Governor Expresses Sadness Over Tragic Tanker Fire, Promises Support For Victims – Lifestyle Nigeria

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed deep sadness over the tragic fire caused by a tanker carrying premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, resulting in severe injuries and loss of life, as well as extensive damage to numerous vehicles.

He remarked that he had promptly instructed relevant federal and state authorities to provide a full briefing on the unfortunate incident and to explore ways for the state government to intervene and mitigate the impact on the victims.

The incident took place on the bustling Eleme section of the East-West Road, specifically between Indorama Gate and Aleto Bridge, which is currently undergoing extensive reconstruction by the Federal Government.

Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, conveyed Fubara’s sadness over the distressing scenes witnessed during his visit to the incident site. The Governor was joined by the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the State Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Uchechukwu Nwafor, on Saturday morning.

The Governor explained that he got a call from the Managing Director of Indorama Petrochemical and Fertiliser Company Limited in Eleme Local Government Area, informing him of the incident.

At the news of the incident, Governor Fubara stated that he immediately put a call to the security agencies and instructed that they visit the scene to take charge of the security of the area to avoid escalation of the situation.

Governor Fubara said: “We are here to see for ourselves and get a first hand information of the incident of what happened yesterday night.

“About 7.30 – 8pm, we got information of the gravity of the incident. I was told that it was caused by a tanker vehicle that was conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

 Fuel Scarcity Bites Harder

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that residents in Sokoto State have continued to lament the untold hardship they are subjected to following the fuel scarcity being experienced in all parts of the state that has made businesses and other activities very difficult.

Commuters in the state said most filling stations are locked under the guise that they lack product to dispense, while black marketers are selling a litre of petrol between N2,000 and N2,500 across the metropolis.

Some residents who spoke with Channels correspondent called on the government to intervene to bring the situation under control so as not to degenerate.

They said the situation has started affecting business activities and making life difficult for people as the black market price of N2,500 per litre is becoming scarce and this is bringing business and other activities to a standstill in the metropolis.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has blamed the fuel queues that have resurfaced in Lagos, Abuja and other states of the Federation on “logistics issues”.

The company, however, said the issues have been resolved.
