2023 Polls: Obi’s Supporters More Peaceful Than Buhari’s In 2011 – Shehu Sani – Lifestyle Nigeria

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani has said Supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi are more peaceful in conduct compared to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari’s supporters in 2011.

. reports that before the merger of different parties that birthed the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014, Buhari ran under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). It was after the successful merger that APC defeated former President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who seeking re-election at the time.

Sani in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday said Nigerians only need to recall the past to appreciate what Obi’s supporters who are popularly called ‘Obidients’ are doing today.

“NO patriot should trigger or encourage anarchy;but we shouldn’t also ‘shorten our memories’;what Peter’s supporters are doing in 2023 is more peaceful than what Buhari’s supporters did in 2011. You only need to recall the past in order appreciate the present,” he tweeted.

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has said the N70,000 new minimum wage for workers in the State is within what his administration can afford, noting that the increase became necessary as a result of the current economic realities.

The governor said this while addressing workers during a rally held to mark the May Day celebration at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

He praised the workers for the harmonious relationship with his administration, noting that the peaceful disposition of the organised labour in the State with the government has led to several achievements for the State Government.

Obaseki noted, “Two days ago, I announced that we have raised the minimum wage for Edo workers from N40,000 to N70,000 naira, an increase of over 75 per cent. This is because we know and feel the pains and hardship which most of you experience daily.

“Fuel subsidy has been removed. The exchange rate has more than doubled and food prices have gone almost off the roof and most of you find it difficult to feed yourself and your family.

“We are an empathetic government; we can’t say we do not know and if we know, we can’t sit down without doing anything about it. This is why we say even if it’s a strain on us, we should do what we ought to do to increase the minimum wage for our workers.”

He continued: “The N70,000 minimum wage is within what we can afford as a State Government. However, should the Federal government decide on a higher minimum wage and make the funds available to States from the savings which have been made from fuel subsidy, the Edo State Government will adjust its minimum wage to that of the Federal government.

“Your salaries will continue to be paid on or before the 26th day of every month. We would continue to ensure we have an effective health insurance scheme to assist public servants. This scheme has assisted many families. I encourage you to enroll into this scheme.

FG Commences Payment Of N2.7bn Compensation To Properties Affected By Coastal Highway

Federal government of Nigeria has commenced the payment of compensation to some property owners affected by the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that the minister of works, David Umahi at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos on Wednesday.

He presented dummy cheques to some property owners along the Lagos end of the road project.

Recently, the federal government commenced the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, which is expected to run through the shoreline of beach resorts in Lagos, while traversing eight other states.

Concerns have been raised over funding and the businesses that will be impacted by the construction of the project.

Speaking during the meeting, Umahi said the federal government has put a “human face” to the construction of the project by compensating affected property owners.

The minister said the federal government changed the project route to save some properties, adding that N2.7 billion would be paid to property owners as compensation.

The Nigerian Army has released the list of successful candidates for its Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 28/2024.

The Nigerian Army made an official publication via its X handle on Wednesday, stating that the full list of successful candidates for the course can be accessed via its official website.

According to the publication, Officer Cadet training will commence on 10 May 2024 at the NDA, Afaka, Kaduna.

Below is the General Instruction for the next stage of the DSSC exercise as announced by the Nigerian Army:
