Mary J Blige Delivers The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show Like The True Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul

What do you get when you put together the Queen and Kings of hip-hop on the same stage? An immersive and exciting musical display, right?

Well, Mary J. Blige did just that as she delivered an impressive musical performance to over 100 million viewers during the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show at the SoFi Stadium in California, last night. She was joined on stage by award-winning artists Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, and Kendrick Lamar, who all teamed up to wow the crowd with a high-energy medley of hits. This includes some of Blige’s biggest hits such as “Be Without You,” “Family Affair” and “No More Drama.”

Dre also performed “California Love,” in reference to the Western US state, as well as Lamar’s “m.a.a.d city.” Of course, fans were excited about the 90s and 2000s icons transporting their memories back to the 90s.

However, the attention was not only on the music but Mary J. who shined bright in a silver bodysuit and a matching pair of her trademark thigh-high boots, all by Peter Dundas. She accessorized with silver hoops and wore cascading Rapunzel hair, which according to her hairstylist Tym Wallace, “It’s ghetto fabulous.”

“Mary is the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, so I wanted to let that show in her hair,” Wallace explained to Vogue, while also describing the platinum blonde hairstyle as ‘so beautiful.’ “I’d originally requested 50 inches, and we settled at 40 inches!”

He continued: “I darkened the roots up and ended the shadow a little lower than usual because the hair is so long,” Wallace says. “It’s super edgy, but still so beautiful.”
