Ekiti Election: INEC Pledges Fair Process As Governorship Candidates Battle For Supremacy

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it is prepared to hold a successful governorship election in Ekiti State.

Festus Okoye, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, said the commission would use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the June 18 election.

This was during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, June 14.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, is already in the south-western state, according to Okoye, who also confirmed that stakeholders will sign the peace pact on Wednesday.

Okoye said;

Expect a good (governorship) election in Ekiti State. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission was in Ekiti two weeks ago on readiness assessment.

We visited five local government areas and all the non-sensitive materials have already been diced in accordance with registration areas. Presently the chairman is in Ekiti State and there is going to be a stakeholders’ engagement today and tomorrow, there will be a signing of the peace accord.

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and one of the governorship aspirants during 2023 elections in Ogun State, Segun Showunmi, on Monday, cautioned President Bola Tinubu from toeing path of an ingrate.

Otunba Showunmi said that President Tinubu can not afford to be a betrayal of the trust the north has in the south as far as managing the political landscape of nigeria is concerned.

Showunmi condemned Tinubu’s total neglect of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and Yahaya Bello, the former governors of Kaduna and Kogi States, respectively, despite working tirelessly to ensure that the former governor of Lagos emerged last February as the new President of nigeria.

The PDP chieftain disclosed this in a statement titled “This Madness Must Stop” and made available to journalists on Monday.

Showunmi accused Tinubu of allowing the former Kogi governor to suffer unnecessary humiliation at the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission despite his invaluable contribution to actualising Tinubu’s presidency, while other former governors of the Peoples Democratic Party are allowed to stroll all over the town.

Edo Guber: Faction Of PDP Demands Removal Of Deputy Gov Omobayo

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that Barely five months to the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State, the Legacy Group faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state has demanded the reversal of the appointment of Godwin Omobayo, as the new deputy governor of the state.

According to DAILY POST, the Legacy Group faction, led by Dan Orbih, the party’s National Vice Chairman, South South Zone, made the demand on Monday at the Edo Central PDP Leaders and Stakeholders Meeting held in Irrua, the administrative headquarters of Esan Central Local Government Area.

Speaking on the resolutions of the stakeholders meeting, Orbih said the reversal of the appointment of Godwin Omobayo as the new deputy governor of the state would be one of the conditions that would make the group work for the party during the election.

Orbih, also added that the group is threatening to work against the party at the election, if their grievances were not addressed.

He opined that the new deputy governor of the state was a Labour Party member and not PDP at the time of his appointment.
