The twin children of a lady who had been searching for her unborn child for seven years were among the dead infants, according to a hospital medical officer,  who talked to Standardobservers under the condition of anonymity.

She claimed that although the baby was delivered last month, it was early, therefore the infant was placed in an incubator.

According to her;

I’m saddened. We lost those twins yesterday (Wednesday) because of power failure at the hospital. More than 14 babies have died at the incubator in the past weeks due to power failure in Rivers State.

Other patients disclosed that because of the terrible electricity condition, their doctors were referring them to private hospitals.

They stated that their family help the medical staff caring for the patient who was brought to the Accident and Emergency Ward by using the phone light.

Prof. C. N. Mato, the hospital’s provost, declined to comment when asked about the situation.
