Skit makers, stand-up comedians should collaborate, no need for rivalry, says Bovi

Why should it (rise of skit makers) affect them (stand-up comedians)? They are two different crafts. We should learn to be more collaborative instead of competitive.

Joke artist and entertainer, Bovi Ugboma, has said the ascent and acknowledgment of production creators in media outlets won’t influence professional comics.

In an interview,  he said, “Why should it (rise of skit makers) affect them (stand-up comedians)? They are two different crafts. We should learn to be more collaborative instead of competitive.

“Anytime I get that question, I get worried because what they do is online, and there is a market for it. What we do is offline and there is a market for it as well.

“They have a different genre, so we should encourage them and the fact that they can make money out of it. The fact that it is now a booming business is a plus to the entertainment industry.”

On what recognizes him in media outlets, the humorist said, “I just do me and I make sure I always challenge and reinvent myself. I also constantly evolve so people would not get bored. If one does not reinvent oneself, people will find one predictable.”

Asked his thought process of performers supporting government officials, he said,

“They are not just beginning to do that. They have been doing that for a long time. Entertainers are humans and they have a right to support whoever they want to.”

Bovi additionally expressed that there is a distinction between him as a joke artist and as an entertainer. He said, “The actor plays different roles and assumes new personalities. Meanwhile, the comedian tells his story in a comical way, so there is a huge difference in the sense that, when I am acting, I am not being me 100 per cent.”
