Lagos Assembly Summons Commissioner For Waterfront Infrastructure

Lagos State House of Assembly sitting at Alausa has summoned the Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Arch. Kabiru Ahmed Abdullahi, for refusal to honour invitation from the Committee overseeing activities of the ministry.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that this happened during plenary today when the Chairman of the committee on Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Olumuyiwa Abdulwahab Jimoh brought to the attention of the house the unacceptable conduct of the Commissioner in the discharge of his responsibilities.

He prayed the House to allow the committee to urgently commence a comprehensive investigation of all the projects awarded by the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development since assumption of office of the Commissioner, Arch. Kabiru Ahmed Abdullahi.

Secondly, that the House do pass a vote of no confidence on the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Arch Kabiru Ahmed Abdullahi and withdraw his confirmation.

This was supported by Hon. Bisi Yusuf, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, Hon. Victor Akande and all the lawmakers who contributed to the motion, and in what looked like a unanimous decision, the lawmakers agreed to grant both prayers.

In his ruling however, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa appealed to House members to extend one last invitation to the Commissioner to appear before them on Thursday 15th, September 2022.

BREAKING: IPMAN Set To Shut Down 30,000 Filling Station

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria announced on Tuesday that the 30,000 stations run by IPMAN members nationwide will be closed if the Federal Government does not settle the N200bn debt owed to marketers.

According to IPMAN, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority—a Federal Government agency—has declined to pay the outstanding debt, which has been accumulating since September 2022.

The non-payment of marketers’ bridging claims was revealed in a communiqué released in Abuja by Yahaya Alhassan, the Chairman of the IPMAN Depot Chairmen Forum. In Nigeria, IPMAN is in charge of more than 30,000 filling stations.

Payments made by the government to oil marketers for the conveyance of petroleum products loaded from depots to different states throughout the nation are known as bridging claims.

Alhassan said the consequences of the failure by NMDPRA to pay the N200bn “will be terrible, as every marketer’s outlet across Nigeria, from the North to the South, and from the East to the West, will be shut down.”
