Some basketball stakeholders have rejected the recognition of Musa Kida as the President of the nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, describing the action as illogical, irrational and a miscarriage of justice.

The group under the umbrella of “New Face of Basketball” questioned the methodology used by the Sports Minister, Mr Sunday Dare, to pick Kida as the NBBF President after publicly acknowledging that two elections took place on January 31, 2022.

Two elections were held on January 31, 2022, in Abuja and Benin, producing Igoche Mark and Kida as the NBBF Presidents respectively.

The spokesman of the group and Chairman of Kaduna State Basketball Association, Skambo Morrison, in a media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said the group had maintained silence for the sake of peaceful resolution and the amendment of the controversial Constitution of the basketball federation.

Morrison added that the group had options at their disposal if the Sports Minister fails to retrace his steps, by doing the right thing.

“So, it is not news that the minister of Youth and Sports indeed acknowledged that there were two elections but our big surprise till today is that the minister and ministry never came out to talk to us about the findings of those elections.

“As good citizens of this country, we have remained very quiet, calm and disciplined waiting to hear the outcome of those elections.

“But till this day, nobody has called this particular faction to say anything to them concerning the election. Instead, we now found out that there were a couple of people parading themselves as the custodians of basketball in nigeria.

“We want the minister to know that we have options if he fails to do the right thing,

“We, therefore, want a clarification of how Kida emerged to become the president of the NBBF, knowing well that the minister who is in charge of sports in nigeria acknowledged and pronounced that there were two elections and that his ministry was looking into the issue to make sure that things were resolved in the NBBF,” Morrison stated.

Empathy Gap? Labour Criticizes Tinubu’s New Year’s Address for Tone-Deafness

Latest Politics updatein nigeria

Labour Party Tinubu

The Labour Party (LP) says President Bola Tinubu’s New Year’s broadcast to Nigerians lacks empathy.

Tinubu, in his nationwide broadcast to Nigerians on Monday, urged the citizens not to falter despite the tough times and difficulties they face.

“Dear Compatriots, take this from me: the time may be rough and tough, however, our spirit must remain unbowed because tough times never last. We are made for this period, never to flinch, never to falter,” President Tinubu said.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, the LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said the “speech conveyed to Nigerians the high level of hypocrisy, deceit and lack of empathy which has become the guiding principle of the All Progressives Congress administration which Tinubu leads.”

“The President’s helplessness in the face of his glaring failure to address the critical issues of insecurity, decayed infrastructure, the collapse of the manufacturing and productive sectors, inflation and the Naira to Dollar exchange rate which is spiraling out of control is written all over the speech.”

According to the party, there was no word about the alleged massive looting of the nation’s resources by appointees and party leaders in various sectors.

“How does his ill advised decision on fuel Subsidy removal without a plan to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians translate into an action taken in the national interest?

“Of what benefit was the millions of the nation’s dwindling foreign reserves frittered away under the guise of attending the climate change summit in Dubai to Nigerians?

“How do we begin to repair the damage being done to our democratic institutions such as the Judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC among others by the APC Administration?

“While we call for prayers for our nation in this critical point of our history, we will continue to call on the National Assembly to look beyond party lines and ensure that the spirit and the letter of our constitution is upheld at all times,” he stated.

PDP Pans Tinubu’s New Year’s Speech as “Deceitful Promises”

Latest Politics updatein nigeria

Tinubu Niger Republic

The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s New Year’s address, labeling it a “harvest of deceit, false claims and empty promises.”

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP described the speech as uninspiring and a waste of time, failing to address any crucial issues plaguing the nation.

“Nigerians were dismayed by President Tinubu’s reliance on empty rhetoric,” the PDP charged, “while neglecting critical issues like the biting insecurity, crumbling infrastructure, ailing manufacturing and productive sectors, the suffocating 28% inflation rate, the Naira’s freefall, alarming unemployment, and widespread poverty fueled by the reckless and insensitive policies of his administration.”

He added that Tinubu’s statement that his actions and policies are in the interest of the nation further confirmed that this administration is allegedly subjecting Nigerians to hardship as a way to suppress them to surrender to totalitarianism.
