Imo PDP Confronts National Secretary Over Atiku Campaign Money – Lifestyle Nigeria

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has confronted the national secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu over his claim of the misappropriation of funds meant for the presidential and National Assembly elections accusing him of failing to give full disclosure of the issues and of his alleged failure to deliver his unit to the party.

Alleging his complicity in the agenda of the Hope Uzodimma administration to muscle the PDP out of competition in Imo, the state chapter wondered why the national secretary has kept quiet to the cries for justice against the alleged electoral heists committed on February 25 supposedly by agents of the APC administration in the state.

. reports that the contentions from the state chapter of the party is coming against the alleged division in the party between Senator Anyanwu and the mainstream of the party that is behind Chief Emeka Ihedioha, the immediate past governor of the state.

The rebutal followed the claim by Senator Anyanwu that some chieftains of the Imo State chapter collected funds appropriated by the party and used same to work for the APC.

The party in a statement issued by the state publicity secretary Collins Opurozor and made available to . on Wednesday said:

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State is aware of a statement by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Party, which has now been published in some sections of the media, alleging that the money for the Party’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Imo State was misappropriated. The statement goes on to accuse Imo PDP leaders of sabotage during the elections.

Setting The Records Straight Between Imo PDP and Senator Samuel Anyanwu

Inasmuch as we respect the person of Senator Anyanwu and the office he occupies, it is necessary to always set the records aright. Also, PDP is in opposition in Imo State, and so it relies chiefly on popular confidence and acceptability to reclaim its stolen mandate. Therefore, the attempt by Senator Anyanwu to cast a slur on the reputation of the Party and the integrity of our leaders is most unacceptable.

Yet, because the claims contained in the statement made by our National Secretary are not just effectively dubious but also completely untrue, Imo PDP is deeply worried about the interests which the Amaimo-born Distinguished Senator intends to advance through such barefaced misinformation.

For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Anyanwu was in attendance during the last stakeholders meeting of the Party on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023 where issues of appropriation of resources and disbursement thereof for the prosecution of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the State were agreed upon. The framework  adopted by stakeholders was handed over to the Finance Department of Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for implementation.

In line with this framework, the logistics for the elections in each Local Government Area was given to a team of stakeholders from that LGA, which included the Apex Leader of the LGA, the Chairman of the Party in the LGA, the Chairman of the Campaign Council in the LGA, the Candidates from the LGA, a National, Zonal and State Officer of the Party from the LGA and other Party stakeholders from the LGA. Till this day, the Party has never received any complaint of any sort of deviation from the generally-agreed framework. One begins to wonder what could have informed the outburst from the National Secretary.

If there is anything Imo PDP finds really troubling, it is the fact the our Presidential Candidate scored only ten (10) votes at Obodo Central School in Amaimo, Ikeduru LGA, which is the polling unit of our National Secretary. This is extremely difficult to explain.

Imo PDP Wants Anyanwu To Speak On Alleged Election Injustice

It is also worrisome that despite the hues and cries that have trailed the elections in Imo State, our National Secretary has been most unwilling to lend his voice to the agitations by Imo PDP for the electoral process in Imo to be sanitized and the culprits in the February 25th electoral fraud be brought to book. We had expected the National Secretary to deploy his strategic position to draw attention to some of the indefensible electoral malpractices in the State.

For instance, our victory in Nkwerre/Isu/Njaba/Nwangele Federal Constituency is being sat upon by Imo’s rampaging petty-dictator in cahoots with his corrupt enablers within INEC. Our senatorial victory in Imo North was also glaringly truncated. In areas where elections never held because of insecurity, results were written for the APC.

For Imo East senatorial district, where our Party was coasting to victory, results were rewritten and swapped in Owerri Municipal just to halt our victory. Worse still, over fifty polling units in Mbaitoli and Owerri West were excluded from the final collation. For Orlu, Orsu and Oru East, the incumbent APC took advantage of the insecurity in the areas and diverted election materials and wrote results for themselves. These issues are fundamental, as they touch on the very integrity of our electoral process.

We therefore call on our National Secretary to join hands with us in our clamour for justice in these cases. Turning around at this point to level allegations of sabotage and misappropriation on Party leaders in Imo is a disservice to the Party, which obviously sabotages our efforts to remain united so as to spiritedly fight for the retrieval of all mandates brazenly stolen from us by the unelectable APC.

Our leaders and overwhelming members across the State are enjoined to remain focused and resolute, aware that no effort shall be spared in our quest for credible elections in Imo and in reversing the injustices meted out to our victorious candidates at the polls.

Why Nigeria Needs State Police — Senate President, Akpabio

Lifestyle Nigeria Gathered that President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has made a passionate appeal for the establishment of state police.

Speaking at a national dialogue on Security and State Police, held in Abuja, Senator Akpabio declared that the mounting security challenges across the country have made the creation of State Police to complement Federal Police compelling.

The President of the Senate appealed to the gathering to ensure that the State Police departments are insulated from politics, religion, and ethnic extremism.

He said: “In working out modalities for the state police and the security of our nation, we must not forget that security is not a privilege, but a fundamental right of every Nigerian. It is our duty to ensure that this right is upheld, that justice is served, and that the rule of law prevails.

We must build a security architecture that is robust, transparent, and accountable. If we are to set up state police departments, we must ensure that they are free from the shackles of politics, religious extremism, tribalism, and ethnicism. We must empower them to serve and protect, without fear or favour.

“As we consider this proposition, let us draw inspiration from the United States of America, a nation that has successfully implemented a system of state and federal policing. Let us learn from their experiences and adapt their models to suit our unique socio-political context.

Let us ensure that our state police forces work in harmony with their federal counterparts, collaborating to fight crime, preserve peace, and safeguard our democracy. In the USA, the FBI, the federal police body enforces federal laws and the state police departments enforce state laws. The FBI also investigates inter-state crimes. We must draw the lines because to have functional state police we must have a strong federal police.”

Akpabio who shared strong reservations about abuse of State Police as instrument of witch-hunt asked his colleagues to cooperate in building a system that is fair, just, and equitable for all.

“But let us never forget that the power of the state police should never be used as a tool of oppression or witch-hunting. Let us ensure that political powers do not manipulate the state police to silence dissent or target their enemies. Let us ensure that the influential do not exert undue influence over the state police, and that justice is blind to wealth, power, politics, or status. Let us build a system that is fair, just, and equitable for all.

“Therefore, in this hallowed hall, let us embrace this dialogue as an opportunity for unity, understanding, and collaboration. Let us rise above our differences and work towards a common goal – a safer and more secure Nigeria.

Let us use our collective efforts to build a nation that can withstand the challenges that lie ahead, a nation that can combat the monster of insecurity that currently threatens our collective well-being.“

“God Is Nothing Without Me”: Viral Graduate Tenders Apology For His Bad Grammar

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that a recent Benue State University (BSU) graduate, Msuega Terna Jnr, has apologized for his contentious graduation celebration post, which went viral on Facebook.

Msuega, who was celebrating the completion of his university career, posted photographs of his signing out on the Facebook page “TIV SINGLES” with a comment littered with poor language.

His now-deleted message said, “Hello Tiv shingles, celebration with me. I am a graduation from BSU.

“God is nothing without me.”

In a follow-up Facebook post on Sunday, Msuega clarified that his viral graduation post was not intended to disparage or drag his alma mater through the mud, but rather to raise publicity for himself. He said that it was intentional.

“In the said publication, I deliberately used wrong sentence to create awareness of my signing out from the university, though it was deliberate, but with no intentions of hurting anyone, a group, community or Institution.

“The publication has generated mixed reactions from users of social media, the academics, religious believers and different groups of people. “It was not intended to drag the reputation of any individual, group, community or Institution to the mud, neither was the publication to discredit God.”

He also stated that he believes in the existence of God. “I want to tender my unreserved apology for making people believe a graduate can’t express himself, doubting the reputation of my school, feeling I’m using God’s name for joke.
