Word document and PDF are the most used document formats in a formal or informal settings.

In recent versions of Microsoft Office, there is a very convenient way to either export or convert any Microsoft Office documents into a PDF.

PDF is a great type of file to share between different operating systems, because there are typically no conversion problem.

You can really count on it to appear the way you intend. It helps prevent editing.

It typically has smaller file sizes, and for official communications, many businesses and organisations prefer the PDF standard.

You can use SmallPDF or Google Drive to convert a Word document into a PDF online, or you can use Microsoft Word itself on your Windows or Mac computer.

Examples include resumes, legal documents, newsletters, files that are intended to be read (not edited) and printed, and files that are intended for professional printing.

How To Convert Word Document Into PDF Using Microsoft Word

Click the Microsoft button to open the document you want to convert, and then click the “File” tab.

After you click on the “file” tab, there will be a drop down of menu on the backstage screen, select “Save As” from the list on the left.

On the “Save As” screen, select where you would like the PDF to be saved (OneDrive, This PC, a particular folder, or wherever) You will see different options on the drop down menu.

Next step, click the drop-down arrow on the right side of the “Save as type” box, and select “PDF (*.pdf)” from the list of options in the drop-down menu.

At this point if you want to, you can change the filename at this time to whatever name you sole desires. When you are done, click the “Save” button.

If you want to open the file immediately after saving it, select the Open file after publishing check box. This check box is available only if you have a PDF reader installed on your computer.

If you want a little more control control over the PDF creation process, you want to come up to File > Export > Create PDF/XPS Document.

Click Publish if you’re done. But if you want to see some customization options, click Options.

PDFing a page range. You can select a page range to export as a PDF, rather than exporting the entire document. This is really helpful when you only need a portion of a document in PDF form.

How To Convert Word Document To PDF Using Google Drive

If you don’t have Word, but need to convert a document someone sent you, you can upload a Word document to Google Drive, convert it to a Google Document, and then convert it to PDF.

This works well enough if you have a simple, mostly text Word document without much formatting (and if you already have a Google account)

Click New. It’s in the top-left side of the Google Drive window. A drop-down menu will appear.

Click File upload. It’s in the drop-down menu. Doing this will open either a File Explorer (Windows) or a Finder (Mac) window.

 

Select your Word document. Go to your Word document’s location, then click the Word document to select it.

 

Click Open. It’s in the bottom-right corner of the window. Your Word document will upload to Google Drive. On a Mac, you may click Choose here instead.

Open the Word document. Once the Word file finishes uploading to Google Drive, double-click it in Google Drive to open it in your browser.

Click File. It’s in the upper-left side of the window. Doing so prompts a drop-down menu.
On a Mac, make sure you’re clicking File in your browser window and not in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Select Download as. This option is in the middle of the drop-down menu. Selecting it prompts a pop-out menu.

Click PDF document. It is in the pop-out menu. A PDF version of the Word document will immediately download onto your computer. Depending on your browser’s settings, you may have to confirm the download and/or select a save location before the file will actually download.

This is another easy and fast option to convert your word document to PDF file. LibreOffice is a free, open-source office app that offers a lot of the same features as Microsoft Office. You can even open Microsoft Word documents, and convert them to PDF.
