According to reports, the Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) from the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti State has sued Pastor Jeremiah Adegoke on behalf of Chef Damilola Adeparusi, better known as Chef Dammy.
The DCR is also pursuing a compensation of N10 million for damages on behalf of Chef Dammy.
Glamsquad recalls that Chef Dammy gained fame after her unsuccessful attempt to break the Guinness World Record with a cook-a-thon challenge in June this year.
Pastor Adegoke, the leader of Spirit Word Global Mission in Ekiti, reportedly sponsored Chef Dammy’s attempt to break Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon record.
However, trouble between Chef Dammy and her pastor began in October, when the 24-year-old raised concerns about alleged threats and intimidation from people she referred to as “people of God” and her pastor.
A few days ago, the police invited the 300-level Mass Communication student from the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), following a petition against her by Pastor Adegoke.
It is worth noting that the specific issue between Chef Dammy and her once-supportive pastor is still unclear, and their disagreement seems to stem from the failed cook-a-thon.
After Chef Dammy’s public complaint, Adegoke, through his lawyers, Bisayo Sule & Co legal practitioners, sent a letter dated October 23, 2023. The letter demanded Chef Dammy to retract her alleged defamatory statement on social media, issue an apology in two widely read national newspapers, and pay N22 million for damages. He gave her seven days to comply or face legal action.
However, in the lawsuit filed by DCR on November 24, Chef Dammy was listed as the applicant, while Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel (the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police), and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, were named as respondents.
The legal action aims to declare that the ongoing harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor and the Nigerian police violate Chef Dammy’s fundamental human rights.
