My Husband Did Not Know Who I Was When We Met

Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo {Ronke Oshodi-Oke}had a seat down with Mobolaji Sadiq where she discussed the ups and downs of her 23-year-old acting career, which she joined at the age of 23. The actress who revealed during the interview that her husband didn’t even know as “Ronke Oshodi-Oke” when they met despite how popular she was at the time.

The actress who recently has had to rebrand herself, which she did mention in the interview that she deleted all of her Instagram photos and videos in a bid to start afresh as she’s in a journey of rebranding herself.

Though she did note that is wasn’t a sign that she’s gradually going into retirement rather she has just reduced being on too many locations. Ronke Oshodi-Oke said she is doing this by choice, as to being selective and becoming a lot less predictable.

When asked about her husband, if he restricts her from acting certain roles?

Ronke Oshodi-Oke said;
My husband is a very understanding person. He is not a movie lover. When he met me, he did not even know I was an actor. On the day he visited me and he was seeing me off, some people started staring and pointing at me. He asked me why that was and I told him my profession. At times, we have watched films together and he saw something he didn’t like and he expressed himself. He loves watching documentaries and watches the news avidly. He is not even a football enthusiast

How does your family cope when you have to be at movie locations at odd hours?

My mother and sisters have been very helpful. They take care of my family when I am working. However, when I am not at locations, I make sure I stay at home all through. I live like a housewife. In recent times, I don’t even go to all locations.

Did you deliberately not marry an actor?

It was not deliberate. As a young lady, I thought marrying an actor was the best option. I felt there will be a better understanding between the couple because they would both understand the profession. However, I later figured that it would not work, and I am grateful for my decision. Both parents in a family doing such a time-consuming job would not work. There are likely to be problems.

Ronke Ojo also tried to clarify during the interview that she didn’t get her famous name stage name “Ronke Oshodi-Oke” as a result of her bodily feature rather as a name that stuck with her after she acted a particular role way back which was located at Oshodi-Oke and ever since she’s had the name tagged with to.
